I'm a mechanical design engineer with a Mechatronics engineering education background. My ability to understand and visualize my client’s thoughts or requirements is my strength. I previously worked on a robot design that required a simplified design from Honda’s concept. The design needed to achieve all the objectives but be cheaper to manufacture. I managed to work on the project within 2 months and it was a success. I also excel well at simplifying design concepts and meeting the desired objectives. This can be well captured in the welding fixture design I worked on.

I’m a good CAD designer, coming to 6 years of learning and practice. I have worked on multiple design projects including, a single-cylinder engine, a Toyota Tundra camping kitchen, a sheet metal office desk, several IOT electronic enclosures, welding-fixtures, among other designs. Most of the designs have proceeded to production and are today in use or have been used. Overall, I excel in CAD modeling services using Solidworks design software. The services involve the following skillsets: design ideation, sketching, 3d modeling, sheet metal design, generating manufacturing drawings, animating the design assembly and rendering.

The single-cylinder engine project was the most satisfying as it required lots of work and attention to detail. It required some renderings,2D manufacturing files, several animations of the engine working, rotating while showing the views, exploding and collapsing animations of the engine assembly. I enjoyed working on this project.

I enjoy working on design projects more so, using Solidworks.

Experience

  • Cnc machinist Kens Metal Industries · Full-time Feb 2022 – Dec 2022 10 mos Nairobi, Nairobi County, Kenya I worked as a CNC machine operator at Kens Metal Industries Kenya for 10 months. I was working on the CNC laser machine and the water jet CNC machine. Gained quite experience on sheet metal cutting, generating G-codes and writing G-codes too. Adding this experience to sheet metal design has really improved my understanding of sheet metal design for manufacturing

Education

  • Dedan Kimathi University degree, Mechatronics Engineering, Second class Honors 2016 – 2021 Activities and Societies: I joined the football club where I would work on my fitness everyday. I was in the robotics team as a member and as the lead designer for 2 years I worked on several projects while studying that include:
    1. Universities and colleges’ national Robotics competitions.
    January 2018 to May 2018
    I participated in the design and fabrication of the Alitra robot that scored position 4 nationally and got the best designed and fabricated award. Designed the chassis and the arm plus the gripper. Fabricated the chassis using Perspex which was neatly cut using a CNC machine. Printed the arm and the gripper using a 3d printer. The whole assembly looked very neat. We won the best-designed robot and came 4th in the overall position.
    2. Siemens Centre PLC Learning kits Design and Fabrication.
    My lecturer Mr Karanja, approached me to have an ideation of the kits in design software. Using Solidworks Sheetmetal, I had the design in 1 day. We evaluated the design and made changes to have a final design. Generated the drawing files for reference while fabricating. Using the guillotine machine, we cut the sheet metal to use while considering proper material management. Drilled and slotted the slots using a drilling machine and a grinding machine. Bent the various sheet metals using a brake. Spot welded the sheet metal joint plates and assembled the whole structure. Installed the PLC kits and wired them accordingly.
