Description:
Hi!

We would like to ask you for your help to bring our bamboo snack organizer from concept to reality.

We are creating a new snack organizer product for the market that will be made out of bamboo and contain a lazy susan turntable mechanic to it. Technical skill or experience with these elements would be helpful.

We want to develop a product that serves the higher end of the market. With quality material and a beautiful modern design.

Currently, we already have a vision of what the organizer should look like, but we need to bring our idea's to 3D models that we can use to bring to production.

We are combining elements of different products and will use these products as references to come up with a final design. For the overall design two products are almost being "thrust" together to get the initial design concept. And then other products are being used as a guide for the secondary details.

There is a specific design in mind for the final product but everything needs to be brought together to ensure a high quality design and optimum functionality.

In the attached file, you can find a design document with instructions and several example images of related products (with elements being merged). We want to ask you to use this guide to design a product that has the perfect look and feel.

Please provide full dimensions for each side/element of the design.

After the design contest, we want to validate our concept and bring the snack organizer to production!
Wants:
- Higher End design product
- Lazy Susan principle integrated in design
- Modern feel that will appeal to home users and businesses
- A product with good functionality
(see more guidelines attached)

Additional Information
***Winner Already Determined*** Please no more entries or changes to your designs. Thank you for everyone who entered. I added two additional prize categories to reward a couple more of you for the great effort and time put in. Really great to get all the input and contributions! Its been very helpful.

Please provide a movie format, drawings, and/or pdf files of the different angles of the organizer for easy viewing for the initial design and final design. The final design should also include the more detailed 3D CAD.

Adjustment/Clarifcation:

Clarification on Top Tier and dividers:

For the Front and Back TOP Tier I want to include the size requirements for the space where the granola bars will go. These divided sections should be at least 2.5 inches in width. And at least one of the sections should be 3 inches in width. They should not be more than 3.15 inches in width.

In regards to the front/back parts divided into 3 parts...originally we did say it should be 3. However, it can be more than 3 also. In addition, the diameter of the entire unit can be larger if needed to make certain the divided parts fit correctly. The diameter should not exceed the maximum height (up to 17").

Please let me know if you need any clarification on this.

**Major Changes-Important**

Some adjustments and additional comments:

If you strongly feel an added material such as metal will enhance the luxury/quality/high end feel of the product we are willing to look at this possibility. We are interested in seeing designs that include some metal elements. Such as a metal rail. Please if you would like to include metal send us metal rails or a metal element as an alternative design but also have a bamboo only design as a backup or primary. See image "metal rail" as an example.

The entire Unit should be 17 inches or under in height (unless you have good reason for it not to like very enhanced functionality)

We have completely changed on the top KNOB! No Knob! It takes up needed space on top without an important function. NO knob on top but a decorative element is definitely desired. See image "Flush Handle" as an example of a knob (or whatever design element) that can be added without adding to the height. Also, the sloping downward affect of this image for the rail around is interesting.

You can make 3 tiers for the entire product. This means 3 tiers also for the Front/Back sides. However, if you do this please make the front/back middle tier detachable. The detachable element needs to be very well done and slide out and in easily without installation. Easy for the user and very structurally sound.

Fruit Basket Element:

One other important consideration is the fruit basket element. We are looking for a creative, elegant, and aesthetically pleasing solution to this. The problem with the Front and Back Top Tier is we would like it to be able to hold either BARS or Fruit at least on one side. And these conflict a little.

Our original design has a front rail (see "Snack Organizer Original Design 1-6") but not enough ventilation for a fruit basket. Fruits should be in a basket because they need to get air and to be seen. So, we need some ventilation on the bottom and possibly the sides (but not necessarily). Search fruit baskets on a search engine to get an idea of different fruit baskets.

But at the same time we need to be able to put in the dividers for snack bars if that is what the user is wanting to use it for. And it to look great either way!

This does not mean we want a fruit basket up there. :) But something that makes sense with these goals in mind.

Important: One idea is to just have one side has the basket element (but still dividers for bars) and the other just the dividers and bars. I'm not sure if this is desired but its worth designing it this way since if we don't like the one side we can say both sides the other way.

"i went through all your comments... some question in my mind are 1. Do we need to stick around the design attached in attachments ( snack organiser design 1 - 6) or can we come up with something totally new . 2. lazy suzan - does it needs to be implemented at each tier level ? is it integrated in the design images attached."

1. I basically answered this in the last comment. You can stick to the original design and that would be okay. However, the original design attachments are not the whole story. This is NOT desired. The designer also needs to read all the documentation. There are issues with the original design. These include the front/back bottom tier being too tall in height between the bottom/top (dropping the top down or adding a 3rd detachable tier are options), the fruit basket element not having ventilation, the right/left tiers not being the same size in height, and there should not be a protruding handle on top.

Or you can make something completely new. One thing though is many of the designers have been trying to come up with something new and they are having difficulty getting the function right. Apparently it's not easy to do. :) So a new look is definitely highly desired but changing the design without strongly understanding and considering why each and every element was included is risky.

2. The lazy susan just needs to turn on the bottom.

Thank you.

Hello ecooco,

You stated, "As you mention it within project description you already have a vision of what the bamboo organizer should look like, but you need to bring your idea's to 3D models. And also you want quality design with optimum functionality. What is the task of the designer in this case? Probably to enhance the existing concept model and make it unique, special, original. The creativity and technology are formative moments of the same reality as thought and action, planning and implementation. So if you want present your vision successfully you need to use more than one design tools.
The project is very challenging but also demanding. I’m working on this project and will be done soon, and please do not close it before the predicted end.
Thank you."

Thank you for the question. First off, I will not close this contest until the time is completely over.

Second, yes we need a designer to enhance the existing concept. Especially aesthetically. To make it look good. IN addition, a couple of the elements like the fruit basket and dividers we were uncertain exactly what would be the best way for those to function. So creativity and problem solving here is very desired.

And finally, altering the concept design, layout so these elements are still included but in different places would be okay. But all the function needs to be understood by the designer in order to make this happen. So designer creativity is very important for all these ways. As are analytical skills in making sure the creativity of the design "Makes Sense" for our needs.

In conclusion, I would say you can stick to the design suggestions in the design documentation and comments but then just make it look beautiful. Or you can make more comprehensive changes but you need to understand all the function needed. Let me know if you need any other questions.

Hello Everyone!

Hi,

Thank you to those who have submitted so far. There are some very interesting designs. However, many are not including all the function we need. Please read all the design document and the additional information we have provided in the comments or the "additional information" section for this Design Contest.

If you do read everything you will be well ahead and almost all of the other entries and have a much better chance to win. Lack of function will not even be considered while the quality of the "look" of the design is more subjective.

So just get everything we need in and you will be a strong candidate! Thank you.

Hi RamaKD,

Great question! You are right. No, the organizer does not really need to hold 200 pounds worth of snacks or other items. The reason that we put such a high weight was more to illustrate the importance that this needs to be a durable product with a structure that will last.

For example, if a user decides to put 50 pounds worth of bottles and food on it for a year we want to make sure this product will not break, not stop spinning or become more difficult to spin, and just last a long time. I hope that helps!

weight capacity is 200 pounds (90 kg)? Isn't that too heavy for a snack organizer?

Hi Farshid,

Great question. Thank you. I think the easiest way to understand the concept is to look at the attachments "snack organizer original design" 1-6. This is still the overall function we are looking for with the organizer. There are just some things about the appearance and function that are not what we are looking for.

So, the Right and Left sides are the one shown in the images that are the smaller sections. The ones with 3 tiers.

The Front and Back sides are the larger sections that have the rail on top.

Hopefully that helps clarify things. Thank you!

Hi Robert,
Thanks very much for this great design competition. I'm a little confused with the brief, so want to ask you to explain your needs in more detail: in the attached Word document you have pointed out a "4 compartment base" and then you indicate "There should be two compartments (call them front and back) that are twice as big as the other two (right and left). The front/back compartments will only have 2 tiers. While the right/left compartments will have 3 tiers."
I don't understand the overall structure you are after. Apart from the base (with 4 compartments) how many more tiers are needed? What are these "front and back" you mention?
Thanks in advance for your response
