I have worked as a mechanical designer for over 4 years. My objective has been to develop solutions to problems in a unique, reliable, and cost-effective way. My experience in the manufacturing world helps guide my design decisions to help make parts machinable and assembler-friendly. Some highlight projects would include: Lunar excavation rover prototype for NASA “Break the Ice” Competition. Work involved designing the rover from the ground up, running stress analysis on parts, creating assembly instructions and BOMs for assemblies, and creating weldment and technical drawings for parts. Hooks! XPLR design for Craggy Games was successfully funded on Kickstarter and received $17,188. Designed a unique locking mechanism that was patented that hid the hinges resulting in a clean look. Accuracy Solutions ORCA Chassis; A modular rifle chassis that is compatible with multiple rifle platforms and uses a unique composite material to save on weight without compromising on strength. Large-scale RC replica of a SAAB 340 with a 10-foot wingspan. The design needed to be 3D printer-friendly and easy to assemble. The entire assembly was composed of over 50 components. Exo skeleton back support brace for farm hands to have better support when bending over for long periods. Fully adjustable skeleton that is easy to put on and take off.

Have been extensively involved in CAD work ever since I began my freshman year at university, and I am don't see myself stopping anytime soon. Why choose me? While I can 3D model like most everyone else, I can design and conduct stress analysis' at the same time. This gives me the ability to optimize your part or assembly for whatever load or stress it may see. Or, maybe you are curious and are wondering what kind of forces your part can withstand before it fails. Well, I can do that for you as well! I know I have what it takes to be a design engineer in the fast-paced aerospace industry as I experienced this past summer, and I will apply that same quality of work to whatever you may need as well.

Hello! I am a Mechanical Design Engineer offering eight (8) years of product-development experience within manufacturing settings across multiple industries including aerospace, consumer products, medical, industrial, and energy. During my time in the aerospace industry I’ve honed my skills and proven my ability to create cost-effective, cutting-edge designs that meet project and product specifications. Also I’m an expert user of CAD programs and skilled producer of mechanical engineering documentation and drawings. I have 14 years of experience with 2D and 3D CAD design. I’m proficient in structural analysis, mechanics, process engineering, and thermodynamics. My aptitude in CAD extends to systems and product design including components and assemblies, detail drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), assembly drawings, engineering BOM’s, and stress analysis. From 2008-2013 I worked at Blue Origin in Kent WA as a design engineer for the propulsion and structural/mechanical groups. Through my engineering knowledge I developed design solutions for aerospace vehicles, systems, and components in the conceptual design phase, as well as, having sole responsibility for specific vehicle subsystems and hardware throughout the design process. Over the course of this position I worked on 3 different space vehicles. I was the responsible engineer for tests of integrated systems on multiple occasions. This entailed orchestrating tests and leading groups of people. In the last year I have worked as a freelance mechanical design engineer during which time my cross industry exposure has been significant particularly relating to injection molded plastic parts, consumer product design, 3D printing, and design automation (API). Please take your time to look through my profile and let me know if I can be of assistance. Sincerely, David Mitchell
