I've worked in Architecture, Civil Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering for the past 20+ years. I'm currently an architectural designer but also do product design, civil design, as well as furniture/interior design. Architecture (software - Auto Cad, Revit, and Chief Architect): I've design residential houses using CMU block (Florida) and also using conc. poured basement foundations with framed walls (BC, Canada). I have also designed houses with ICF construction and know current architectural standards and building codes (IRC, BCBC, CBC, etc.). A lot of the current styles I design are modern, craftsman, and Mediterranean style houses. Mechanical Engineering (software - Solid Works): I've worked several years in the mechanical design field and have worked with gears, flanges, piping, plenums, sheet metal, CNC programming, and welding/bending/tolerances. Product Design (software - Auto CAD 3D & Solid Works): I've done some work with product design, have read and researched ways products are manufactured, and have designed improvements on current product trends. Plastic molds are a dominant feature for product design and knowing your type of plastic and its use play major roles during the design process. Fluent in English and Spanish (born and raised from Florida, USA, lived and worked in British Colombia, Canada for several years, and now live in Coban, Guatemala)

My Outlook: Every product design project begins with a jumble of vague puzzle pieces. The pieces… market analysis, competitive analysis, price points, innovation, differentiation, aesthetics, concinnity, function, ergonomics, materials, manufacturing processes, tooling, assembly, packaging, shipping, users, manufacturers, costs, and the client. A myriad of considerations assemble into a design that makes your product unique, pertinent, targeted within its market, and profitable… a tangible object of desire and promise... a crisp image that makes sense. Every product wants to be something… to be desired and to realize its potential. I strive to stimulate that desire and optimize that potential… to solve the puzzle. My clients' success ensures my own and realizing that desire and potential benefits us both. My Experience: I use my degree in industrial design as a product designer/developer covering a wide variety of products. I have 20+ years of 3D modeling and product development experience. I have the resources to do it all... from concept to point of purchase and everything in-between. My Feedback, received and given: “Steve did great work helping us detail our product for manufacturing. He took the time to really understand the project and its intricacies instead of diving head first and by the end of this job, had an intimate understanding of all the details. He is talented and was willing to research new methods to help meet our stringent product constraints. We went through several discussions and he was excellent at being responsive and keeping things on track. He produced high quality solidworks assemblies and files. Overall he went above and beyond what was expected of him. Highly recommended contractor, A+++” —robocular “Antoine is an outstanding client to work with. He's quite knowledgeable and organized with clearly established goals coupled with exceptional communication skills. This project had some challenging constraints outside typical manufacturing and product design and development norms, but we worked through these challenges while staying within the target budget for the product. This project was more than I had bargained for, but I relished the challenge and Antoine appreciated the effort I put into it, which made this job particularly satisfying. I hope to work with Robocular again in the future.” —Io-Design “Working with Steve was a pleasure, not only do I think he’s an all-around good guy, but his approach to our project was great. He was able to take our idea and bring all his experience in making it better. Our initial idea was transformed into a product that ended up being cheaper to produce and nicer, while being more practical. We were able to overcome the hurdle we encounter and find solution that made it work! Also, he often came back with a different idea of doing things that were very practical. I Highly recommend him. ” — yvesl “Yvesi came to me with the need for a design for a grain dispenser for feeding livestock. As is often the case, he showed me a design from another designer he had hired that didn't meet the product requirements. This design was too large and could not be sold at a profit due to inappropriate and impractical manufacturing processes. Through close collaboration, we came up with a design that is half the size, more aesthetically pleasing and user friendly, and is simple to assemble and install. Also, it will be sold at a projected price point that is 10% lower than the competition at a projected 90% profit margin while enjoying relatively low capital expenditures. It was a pleasure working with yvesi on this project and I'm looking forward to working with him again in the future.” —Io-Design “Io-Design was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. He provided designs that were exactly what we were looking for and he took into account the manufacturing. I would recommend him to anyone. ” — Westone “As mentioned in the job description, Blake works for a company that represents the ultimate, uncompromising audio experience – revolutionary sound; unrivaled comfort and fit; with superior, innovative design in the earphone market. While they are well known among audiophiles and professionals who rely on uncompromising audio, they are less so in the consumer market. This project was part of an effort to update their earphones look, feel, and user experience to the level of their best in class earphone technology... the challenge being that their existing monitors/earbuds were to remain unchanged. Through close collaboration, we came up with a design that practices concinnity with the existing monitors, introduces innovative solutions, targets the consumer market, and enhances brand recognition. Superior design was the point of this project and together we have achieved that goal. Blake is a pleasure to work with and I'm looking forward to the next project.” —Io-Design

I have more than 30 years of experience in the manufacturing field with a focus on medical product development including equipment design and process development. I have spent the last 4 years working as a consultant doing both medical device product design as well as designing automated assembly and test equipment. For the medical device design, a major portion of the work involved identifying and qualifying manufacturing partners that would be used and then implementing manufacturing procedures and processes as required. I would work with the vendors to identify cost effective plans for startup manufacturing and develop prototypes that allowed us to verify design intent as well as test and verify production methods and procedures. I also worked with the vendors to establish a longer term ramp plan as quantities to be produced increase. My consulting work also included designing and building several pieces of semi-automated assembly and test equipment for use in clean rooms by medical device manufacturers.

Versatile and creative project manager and product development engineer. My job is to take an idea that's been sketched on a napkin and develop it to the point where it can be put into production at a profit. I manage all aspects of projects, from estimates and budgets and schedules, to supervision of engineers and designers, to client relationships and vendor coordination. I pay attention to aesthetics, ergonomics, manufacturability, performance and cost. I thrive on technical and organizational challenges. Products that I've designed have been manufactured worldwide, from small batches through million-unit runs. A few highlights: - Deciphered and improved a revolutionary padlock design that was malfunctioning and wasn't ready for mass production. After meticulous refinement and adjustment, it was successfully put into production by my customer and sold widely in the USA. - Led a team of engineers to design a set of all-plastic injection molded shopping carts. In addition to being attractive and full of unique features, the carts are nearly indestructible. Watching one of them undergo a 1600 lb overload test will permanently banish the term "cheap plastic" from your vocabulary. The carts are currently being sold nationwide. - Engineered a unique conference room table that includes power and data hubs in retractable pods, a touch-screen control panel in a hidden pocket, light pipes and pivoting wing surfaces. It will be on the market in late 2017. - Led a team of mechanical engineers during development of a high performance dairy robot. While my primary career has always been in product development, I wove a surprisingly successful mini-career as an artist into a 10 year period beginning in the late 90s. In recent years I've spent evenings and weekends on KVgear, a company I founded to design and manufacture accessories for musical instruments. All of these capabilities come together as I solve design and engineering challenges for my clients.

Born in Cadiz, Spain, I always had a passion for design and manufacturing. Nurturing this passion started with recreational boating where I learned about design and building from an incredible master builder. Shortly after, I joined an architectural firm on which I also developed a taste for construction and its intricacies. I was exposed to everything from blueprints to the production of scale models (maquettes). During this time, I also obtained a certificate as a Solar Project Designer through Censolar. I also worked in plumbing designing water systems for irrigation, pools, residential sanitary water, and a few other projects. My interest in design had just begun and there was a long and interesting road ahead of me. Years later in 2003, I moved to the US where I married my wife, with whom I share a beautiful kid. Moving here opened many doors and I dove into these opportunities head first. In 2004 I joined ACC and attained an AA in Mechanical Design, and from then on I have developed upon that skill. My design exposure since moving to the US has been as follows: * National Instruments, involved in virtual instrumentation design. * Alpha Slip Rings, designing custom commutators for oil drilling, radars, etc. * Sisu Devices, robots and industrial automation. * Biomedical design for Global. * Thermal tooling and mechanical solutions design for Intel, CNC machining, and where I also lead the board repair lab.
