I am a qualified pattern maker with 16 years of SolidWorks experience, specialising in sand casting pattern design for both green sand and chemically bonded processes. My work covers the full casting method — from initial 3D pattern design through to runner and riser systems, gating layout, core boxes, and parting line definition. Every pattern I design starts from the end result — the finished casting — and works backwards. Machining datums, stock allowances, core prints, gating and feeding are not added at the end, they are built into the design from the first line. This is not a process I follow. It is how I think. I use Altair Inspire Cast to simulate and validate casting methods prior to pattern manufacture — confirming fill behaviour, identifying potential shrinkage porosity, and optimising riser placement before any tooling cost is committed. This gives clients confidence that the method is sound before production begins. I have designed patterns for iron, steel, stainless, chrome alloys, brass, and bronze across mining equipment, automotive, pumps and valves, agricultural machinery, rail, and general engineering. I am a senior Industrial Designer with 15+ years of experience in product design, 3D CAD and manufacturing. I specialise in taking products from concept through detailed CAD development and prototyping, with a strong focus on practical, manufacturable solutions. My experience includes injection-moulded products, sheet metal, CNC machining, die casting, 3D printing and structural components. I am highly proficient in SolidWorks and have extensive experience with Onshape, with additional experience in Fusion 360 and Blender. I bring a hands-on understanding of how products are actually made, allowing me to develop designs that are not only visually considered but also technically sound and production-ready. I am a Mechanical Engineer with a Honors Degree from the University of Johannesburg. I have been using the software package Autodesk Inventor and its extras since my 1st year as a Mechanical Engineering Student in 2017, making my experience with this software and Engineering Design as a whole very broad. I have a year experience working as a Design Engineer at a CNC Machining workshop, as part of my Internship with Resolution Circle. I used this role to learn the Siemens machining tools and software used when producing precision machined parts. I also have a year experience as a Mechanical and Instrumentation Engineer at EgoliGas, where we used SolidWorks to design natural gas pipelines that supply gas to many homes and businesses in the Johannesburg area using a network of undergroung pipelines.
