Description:
I’d like a barrier preventing an intruder getting to the first floor, which can be activated in the evening and deactivated in the morning
Wants:
Design which is simple and easy to use, but also effective
Additional Information
The only thing that can be used are the stairs itself, it can be used to anchor, as long as it can be removed easily as and when it's in use - where it's being anchored to it must be discreet when not in use.

Thank you for all of your entries unfortunately none of the entries meet what I'm looking for.
Once again, thank you.

At least tell us how tall is the wall painted in yellow at the top of the stairs.

Don't come up with that solution yet. There are more ways it can be done. At least tell us your budget. 8f budget is not a constrain then we can come up with more practical and completely automated design.

Thank you for your efforts so far - I think given the designs the best solution would be something g that could be anchored/fixed to the stair/stairs reasonably light weight but strong

What is a vertical distance between a ceiling and step at a depth of 100-150mm from a corner of the wall?
According to auxiliary drawing I have submitted.

Hey Markh9
Could you tell me if there's a gap between the wooden railing and the wall tight beside it (in the middle of the stairs) in this picture? Could you tell me approximately how much gap there is? may seem arbitrary but I have a design in mind.

Hi Markh9
would you like the Barrier to be Powered or hand operated ?

Good afternoon - thank you for all of your comments and designs so far.
I'd like to address some of the comments -
An intruder would be classed as someone who breaks into the house
The need is for it to be high enough to stop someone climbing over it
The material is open for discussion - as long as it can hold for 5 to 10 minutes whilst the police make there way
The environment can also be used, as long as it can fold away neatly discreetly or folded up and put away (but easy to do)
Yes I will update the dimensions once the design has been confirmed
The best place for the barrier to be will be roughly roughly the middle of the stairs, there's potentially a part of the drop down wall which could be utilised

You guys are the experts so I'm really excited to see your solutions.

Several questions:
1) define intruder? Its not meant for kids or something.
2) you need to cover the whole access area of the stairs + stairwell. corret?
3) If its an intruder barrier, than this should be a metalic one. Correct?
4) Any restrictions on using the surrounding envinroment? (holes in walls, floor, etc)
5) could you give some actual dimensions? or after you select a design you will update the dimensions according to the actual size?

do you want to barricade the stairs gap only or all the open area ( i mean its for children or for the adults) ?

Barrier works automatically or manually required ? can you shear the dimensions of the barrier?

Collapsible gate will do the job...

There are surely fire safety requirements / constraints / regulations that apply to this. What are they?

Hello Mark, do you have any preference of material or process to manufacture the barrier? For example, wood, metal, structural tubes, bolts, welding, screws, etc.
Another question, the design should be stand-alone or could be fixed to the walls?
Could you provide some dimensions of the space from the reference?

Mosquito Trap Redesign
We want to redesign our UV LED mosquito trap, an outdoor product to be placed in tent, outdoor café, farms to reduce the damage by mosquito. It should be simple, solid, low priced, slim, good quality and fashionable- a mid-way between high-tech and disposable traps. We would like its housing to be partially transparent for the visibility of LED light. Also, we prefer the entry point for mosquito to be a maze design. Type: Mosquito trap Target Audience: All age groups Competitors: enclosed in attachments Design: Maze entry point, partially transparent body, UV LED light, PCB board, cotton stand to put cotton soaked in mosquito attractant liquid, 2AAA battery case Material: Plastic Any software is acceptable if STL format file can be provided Any further questions, please feel free to comment.
New hex dumbbells
Design a range of hexagon shaped dumbbells with an extra cut out for an extra way to grip the dumbbells with two hands. The dumbbell range will be made from cast iron, 7.2 density. A range of six weights. 2.5, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25kg. Satin/matte black colour only. The logo debossed into the surface by around 2mm. The smaller weights with a slightly smaller handle length, becoming larger throughout the range. The logo and weight number identification to go wherever there is enough space to have as large as possible. The weights need to be accurate, within a few grams of the designated weight. The main handle diameter is 35mm, tapering down either side to 28mm and rounded back in as it joins the main weight either side. The edges need to be rounded off so they are smooth to grip all around. The cut out grip area ideally needs to be 40mm in height but for the smallest weights thus could be slightly smaller.
Leaf Dental Care
My company is "Leaf Dental Care", and our mantra is "Eco-friendly Wellness". We will operate an eco-conscious dental clinic that treats our patient with a holistic approach. The project is to create a visual diagram of what the Reception Area and Operatory Room will look like. The Reception Area will be ~400sq ft, and have a store front with floor to ceiling windows. Theme: yoga studio, spa, Zen garden Color Scheme: White, earth tones, wood, stone. The waiting area will consist of a "retail portion", and a "reception portion" Retail Portion: There should be store front display for retail items such as organic health and beauty products. Like an "organic" Sephora. Our neighbors will be high-end retail stores, and we should blend in. Reception Portion: My logo should be displayed behind the receptionist desk. There will be organic cotton fabric couches for people to sit and wait. The kids play area will consist of wooden block toys by Melissa and Doug. LED television will be playing health educational videos. Patients can fill out medical information on tablets. Lighting will be indirect LED lighting. Ambient music will be tranquility music. All medical professionals are wearing yoga clothes instead of scrubs and lab-coats. Operatory Room Diagram: The theme is carried over to the operatory rooms.
Handle / Grip design with gear & Latch
The design needed is for a handle / grip that when squeezed, it will make a 3/8" square bar, which is in a 1 1/2" high extruded piece, travel aprox 2 1/2" towards the grip. See short video. This also needs to be able to lock into multiple positions when squeezed and also have an easy release so that when released it springs back into its original open position. This will be attached to the end of the 1 1/2" high extrusion. There are 2 openings in this extrusion. One along the top will be a square opening in which the 3/8" square bar will be encased and the other one will be a round hole which will encase a 3/8" round tube in which water will travel through. This round tube will need to extend out the back of the extrusion and through the handle and attach to a water hose. The handle / grip needs to extend up above the extrusion a minimal amount. The attached picture of my prototype extends way too high above the extrusion. One thought is to incorporate a rack and pinion type gear to achieve this. Any type of gear or mechanism will need to be enclosed in the handle.
Breakaway and adjustable collar for cats - Aesthetics ONLY
It is based on the contest we posted last time. https://www.cadcrowd.com/contest/2655-breakaway-and-adjustable-collar-for-cats We need 3-5 aesthetics concepts based on the CAD we uploaded, maybe it can be ribbon, fish... as long as it is cat-related. Also, please minimize the level of adjustment into 3. The numeric level needed to be engraved on the wheel clearly, font can be any as long as it looks nice. The overall size of the buckle needs to be smaller, at least the same size or smaller than 22mm x 16mm. We want to make the wheel turning the switch from back to the front, like in the attached picture. But the arrow needed to be smaller. The whole CAD needs to be ready for mass production as we will open the aluminum mold for it.
