Description:
Details of the current Open EVSE charger enclosure can be found at github.com/OpenEVSE/Enclosures/tree/master/Polycase_ML58. Please use this as a reference as the aluminum plate and hardware inside is going to be similar in form to the open source Open EVSE hardware. The boards have been redesigned but have similar forms.

Key differences are that the LCD screen and touchbutton will not be included in our 'branch' - all interaction will be over WiFi via Web or Mobile App. We may add a few status LEDs later, but for now there is to be no UI elements on the enclosure.

Also, there should be no screws visible on the front of the enclosure - the front part of the enclosure needs to be connected to the backplate from behind.

The mounts for the cabling coming out of the bottom of the charger need to be part of the back plate.

The wall mounting method also needs to be hidden from sight.

It would be good as well if the longer charging cable could be hung over / looped around the unit when not in use, and not readily slip off.
Wants:
We're looking for a modern clean design with minimal angles - not boxy, but not an egg either ;-)
Don't Wants:
No joining screws or wall mounting fixtures should be visible from the front of the enclosure.
Company Logo:
Yes
Additional Information
The UL standard that will be used is UL 2594, Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment. Please also include holes for 2 status LEDs:

1. WiFi - red = offline, green = online
2. Charge Status - off = not charging, orange = charging.

We are hoping to sell this charger at cost (less than $200), so please factor the manufacturing costs/complexity into your designs.

For flexibility, we're looking for designs were the charging plug is *not* stored in the unit itself, but off to the side in a separate receptable (something like www.amazon.com/Maxgreen-Wall-Mount-Connector-Holster-Electric/dp/B07G486CBJ/ref=sr_1_1_sspa - with or without the hook to hang the cable).

I'm not a fan of transparent cases.

Could you tell us a bit about the type of the connection cable? What type or diameter will be used? What about the size of the enclosure especially the height. Should it look more futuristic, modern, tech? Who will by this product (age, gender, etc)

Thanks

Hi Kurt, just check out my design.
You do not see the screws.
How do you like it?
The standard is also fine, not an issue.

HI Szilveszter - I'm not sure how to reword - this... I don't want to see any screws from the front for the enclosure - take a look at the Open EVSE reference enclosure providing in the project description.... whatever method is used to connect the front to the back, I don't want it to be visible externally.

Hi Kurt,
What do you mean by that?
"Also, there should be no screws visible on the front of the enclosure - the front part of the enclosure needs to be connected to the backplate from behind."

For this application, flammability will need to be UL-94V-0 which is what the current ML58 Polycase supports, IP-67 or better (waterproof, outdoors, direct sun), and I’m not sure about impact testing.

Hi, what's the deadline for the 1st round?
Tue, 09 Jun 2020 16:56:00 +0000
Unfortunately, the CC platform does not let me redistribute the first prize once the competition has started. I can add more prize money, but I'm not inclined to do that. Bear in mind that I'm not expecting detailed CAD designs to be considered as a finalist.

I hadn't thought of offering multiple prizes. Is this the norm? I must say that if it is I would've expected that whomeever from CadCrowd reviewing the submission would've mentioned it. I haven't used this platform before; CC takes 20% of the money I pre-paid, and took another $80 for a review before it became live. What's the point of the review if good practice isn't highlighted. On the other hand, paying for design files I don't want seems odd too. That being said, I'm more than happy to redistribute the prize money across 3 awards if that is good practice on CC. Maybe the selection process should have multiple rounds with basic sketches (which shouldn't involve much of a time commitment) being submitted for Round 1, and then Round 2 is where 2-3 'pre-designs' are selected for further development.

Nice project! Like EVN already mentioned, it would be better to allocate 3 reward levels instead of only one. Thanks

great project Kurt, I agree with EVN point. Thank you

Very interesting project, thanks Kurt !
Maybe you should split the prize to get 3 winners, it will be more motivating for us and I am sure that you will get better results at the end :)

Hi, I have a few questions. Are you looking for a plastic injection molded enclosure for electronics similar form factor to what you posted? What are the requirements for this housing IP rating, flammability rating, impact testing ETC? Do you want the housing to be easily taken apart and if so how many times will you rate it to be assembled ?

Thanks

UL Listing Wire Run and Schematics
Participant must notify us of intent to submit via email at chrisgentile2022@gmail.com This is for a new system being designed for PAWS for use in new tanks for rescued and rehabilitated penguins and seals. This is a level control pump system, with 2 3HP 230V pumps and a single 230V pump. A level sensor sends a 4-20 mA signal to a Level Control with both N/O and N/C relays. 120 V Power to a 24VDC power supply is switched (ON/Off) allowing the coils for the contactors to close and the pumps can start if the level Control relay sees the level as OK.At low level a 24VDC signal tells a 5W valve to open, filling the tank to "Full". At low/low the pumps shut down and only restart if the level returns to "full" Flow line LC-52, Flow line DL-14 level sensor, I have a rough panel layout and welcome input on contactor and breaker size and Type (C?) as if power fails everything stops - and on power return it all starts at once drawing a lot of Amps for a short time.
