Description:
Space Division Inc is inspired by space travel and the materials used to make modern rockets and space ships. We want to design office furniture that embodies this inspiration and makes use of this material. We are set to launch a sit/stand desktop converter called the Booster and now we want to provide additional, complimentary products. The first is a modern, space inspired desk lamp.
Wants:
We are looking for a clean, modern design that makes use of the carbon fiber flat sheet that we have access to. We are open to a mix of materials but it should be kept to a small amount as we do not have experience or a supply chain set up to handle that. Of course metal hardware is acceptable, but an effort should be made to use the same sizes where possible. The lighting and electrical should be off the shelf components that are readily available, preferably made in the USA.
Don't Wants:
We do not want overly complex designs that are difficult to manufacture. Pockets or channels cut into the carbon fiber sheets should be kept to a minimum.

#59 Carbon Fiber Flat-Pack Lamp
by Anne Pauley
This design uses flat carbon fiber sheet and easily sourced hardware in a sleek and modern lamp design. This lamp can be shipped flat and assembled easily by any user with a single allen key (to be included), greatly reducing shipping cost and necessary packaging. The carbon fiber cutout geometry is designed to be nested, minimizing wasted sheet material.
The easily sourced LED lighting strip provides excellent lighting and takes up less space in shipping than traditional sockets. The hardware used is two aluminum standoffs (McMaster # 93330A541) and four 4-40 cap screws, all inexpensive and easily sourced components.

#45 Carbonio
by Shantanu Upadhyay
A simple, aesthetic and functional design that complements the space themed table.
The assembly is completely modular with all the components available off the shelf. Caron fiber sheets need to be cut in rectangular shapes of different dimensions, with two holes in each of them. Assembly of complete lamp would require only a Hex type screwdriver.
Components in assembly:
1) 8 rectangular carbon fiber sheets (different dimensions) with 2 holes in each of them.
2) 9 hex type screws, available off the shelf.
3) LED light, available off the shelf.

#40 CF Lamp - Minimal & adjustable
by Duncan SmartEng
Made from only flat sheet CF parts! – the body is bent to keep the LED panel in place.
Easily assembled, all non-CF parts are taken found on Alibaba or McMaster (apart from a steel base, which is easily made. ¼” carbon fibre sheets can be used as a substitute).
I have a complete parts list; designed as a flat-pack product.

#35 Carbon Fiber Lamp
by Tyler Wesley
Uses a standard Phenolic Bulb Socket with push thru switch PLT D3885
NEMA plug and SJEOW power cord , w/ simple clips or zip ties for cord management along spine.
Adjustable Plastic Knob & Thumb Screw joint, Mcmaster parts 5993K830, 91185A666
Rest of assembly is simple halved joints cut into the panel parts, thickness can vary, easy to package and assemble.
This is just a very rough model for demonstration of concept, if selected, I can fully engineer the joints (depends on thicknesses) and provide better data for manufacturing.

#33 Modern desk lamp
by aminzeinvand
In the design of this LED, carbon fiber is used for the body and LED lamps for lighting. Using LED bulbs, the LED can be used wirelessly with a rechargeable battery so that it can be easily carried around in different places.
In designing this LED, many factors such as the devices needed to produce, as well as the simplicity of the production process and the cost are considered.

#19 Modern table lamp
by Arhitecto
Carbon fiber made. All white. Has a LED light and on top of it is a little solar panel. Down is the battery that when there is no sun gives power to the lamp. Also the lamp stores new power when turned off and the sun is shinning on it.
It is like a little rectangle. It can be packed into a nice little box like shape, still charging with the sin rays. While it is very flexiable for what height you need while using it.
The provided .FXB file is an Autodesk standard and you can use it with easily.

Discussion
is there any possibility for over molding of CFRT in plastic .
I agree, please prepaid this project.
@Poorvesh Mistry,
1) For this desk lamp I am envisioning using AC power, so the cords will need to relatively inconspicuous. For the light, I am open to a normal size bulb or using LED arrayed as desired to work with your design.
2) We will sell these in our e-commerce store so we will need to ship disassembled, so ease of assembly will be important. The design can incorporate some pieces that are glued together, but that should not be part of the assembly. Fasterners are preferred.
3) The height range should be within 20-28"
4) Plastics would be ok, depending on the use. Metal is acceptable. Mirrors and glass would be more difficult to work with, however if they are of easy shape, (circle, rectangle) it may be acceptable.

@shnaldridge, our material partner is Elevated Materials and we get cured sheets from them. They do have the capability to make curved pieces but we don't want to have to buy any molds or tooling. Their flat sheet goes up to 1/4" but they can make thicker if required. They cut the material on a waterjet.
I will attach a picture of the Booster sit/stand desk.

Need more information, looking at the products on your website
1) What kind of bulb you wish to use ? running on batteries or directly on AC supply or rechargeable system ?
2) want the design to be completely easy to assembly & disassemble, using fasteners or glued ?
3) Any size limitation ?
4) what kind of other materials are allowable, like plastics as on mcmaster.com, glass or mirrors (sorry no idea if you could machine them or get it easily) ?

May we have some pics/sketches of the booster? Is the sheet you use pre-preg or cured sheet and what thickness?
Thanks for the comment Milan, I will discuss with the team about pre-paying a project.
I am looking forward to work on your project If you prepay the contest and make it blind.
More designers will participate when the contest is prepaid.
If you dont like any design at the end of the contest you can have full refund back.

Elecyr Hybrid Energy Storage System
Our products connect directly to solar panels or the grid and store energy to provide power at a later time. They can be interconnected to form a microgrid and share the power collected among multiple systems. Our current product starts at 15kW, weighs about 700lbs and can be expanded to a megawatt. We are developing a family of lower end systems starting at 2500 watts and weighing less than 100 lbs. We're looking for a consistent, modern, clean and attractive look that will bridge the range of products and be sufficiently visually striking to help with our entire company identity. We're looking for a clean functional design that's very simple. Think iPhone and Cuisinart. We also would like to minimize tooling costs and keep the cost of the packaging as low as possible. We have a mechanical design team so we're primarily looking for a conceptual design look rather than a detailed package. I've attached a couple images of our existing power stack and a possible design for the 2.5kW 100 lb unit. 605×330×445 mm (LWH). We are also looking to do a scaled up unit at 5kW that's also portable and a more fixed unit at 8kW that is more like the large system we have now. I've attached a sketch of how that one will assemble internally. Again, we're looking for someone to bring a consistent, recognizable and unique look to the product line while staying very simple and clean.
Solar Cooler 10 ltrs
