Modern desk lamp made of carbon fiber
Space Division Inc is inspired by space travel and the materials used to make modern rockets and space ships. We want to design office furniture that embodies this inspiration and makes use of this material. We are set to launch a sit/stand desktop converter called the Booster and now we want to provide additional, complimentary products. The first is a modern, space inspired desk lamp.
Modular Rope Clamp System
Overview
We are commissioning a new, modern, and modular rope clamp and leash system designed to replace traditional hardware-based rope terminations with a refined, functional, and highly adaptable solution.
The goal is to develop a two-piece clamping system that securely grips rope ends while offering a modular connection interface for a variety of attachments such as clips, carabiners, ID plates, and tracking devices.
Designers will reimagine this everyday piece of hardware into a sleek, durable, and production-ready product suitable for both CNC machining and injection molding.
Winning designers will receive follow on work directly with the company as we continue to build out the modular system. This is intended as an initial design fit assessment and will result in a direct contractual design opportunity for the right designer.
Design Objectives
Create a next-generation rope clamp that:
• Is compact, strong, and minimal in size and form.
• Uses two interlocking halves to compress and secure rope ends.
• Incorporates internal gripping geometry (spikes, teeth, ribs, or equivalent) for maximum holding strength.
• Supports modular attachments through interchangeable connection interfaces.
• Is aesthetically refined, modern, and rugged enough for field or consumer use.
Rope Specifications
• Must accommodate rope diameters from 3/8” (9.5mm) up to 10mm.
• The design should minimize bulk while ensuring strength and secure retention under tension.
Technical & Functional Requirements
• Must pass both static and dynamic load tests suitable for leash and tether applications.
• Compatible with CNC machining (aluminum or titanium) and injection molding (advanced polymer such as PA12, PEEK, or reinforced nylon).
• The clamping mechanism may use:
• Screws (stainless, titanium, or equivalent)
• Tab lock, slide lock, or screw lock (end-cap screws, not standard machine screws)
• Tool-based or toolless methods of secure closure.
• May include magnet-assisted connections for modular accessories or inserts.
• Internal design must securely grip rope without cutting or damaging fibers.
• The design must be modular, allowing optional attachment inserts such as:
• Carabiner or clip connectors.
• Identification plate (dog tag style).
• Housing for Apple AirTag or similar tracker.
Aesthetic Direction
Designs should be:
• Sleek, modern, and rugged.
• Lightweight and functional, with minimal form factor.
• Ergonomically refined with smooth exterior lines.
• Visually consistent with premium outdoor, climbing, or tactical hardware.
• Avoid the look of generic plastic or industrial utility fittings.
Materials & Manufacturing
• Polymers: Engineering-grade thermoplastics suitable for injection molding (glass-reinforced nylon, PA12, PEEK, or similar).
• Metals: CNC-machined aluminum or titanium versions.
• Hardware: Stainless or titanium fasteners; all corrosion-resistant materials.
• Must be designed for efficient mass production, with minimal part count and assembly steps.
⸻
Modularity Requirements
The design should support a unified form factor with optional modular accessories such as:
• Carabiner adapters (example: Frog clip style).
• Threaded or magnetic modules for ID or AirTag integration.
• Snap-in or twist-lock modules for alternate leash or tether uses.
Designers are encouraged to explore magnetic or mechanical hybrid locking systems for secure and intuitive attachment.
Submission Requirements
• 3D CAD files: STEP, IGES, or STL format.
• Renderings: At least 3 high-quality renderings from different angles (one exploded view required).
• Short concept description: ≤250 words explaining design logic, materials, and assembly.
• Optional: animation or short video demonstrating modular attachment concept.
Elecyr Hybrid Energy Storage System
Our products connect directly to solar panels or the grid and store energy to provide power at a later time. They can be interconnected to form a microgrid and share the power collected among multiple systems. Our current product starts at 15kW, weighs about 700lbs and can be expanded to a megawatt. We are developing a family of lower end systems starting at 2500 watts and weighing less than 100 lbs. We're looking for a consistent, modern, clean and attractive look that will bridge the range of products and be sufficiently visually striking to help with our entire company identity. We're looking for a clean functional design that's very simple. Think iPhone and Cuisinart. We also would like to minimize tooling costs and keep the cost of the packaging as low as possible. We have a mechanical design team so we're primarily looking for a conceptual design look rather than a detailed package. I've attached a couple images of our existing power stack and a possible design for the 2.5kW 100 lb unit. 605×330×445 mm (LWH). We are also looking to do a scaled up unit at 5kW that's also portable and a more fixed unit at 8kW that is more like the large system we have now. I've attached a sketch of how that one will assemble internally. Again, we're looking for someone to bring a consistent, recognizable and unique look to the product line while staying very simple and clean.
Reverse Flow, Offset BBQ Smoker: That is actually visually appealing.
Reverse flow, offset BBQ smokers cook amazing barbecue. I am looking to start a small custom reverse flow bbq smoker fabricating company that prides itself on quality built reverse flow bbq's with the design and visual appeal that our industry lacks. 97% of smokers out there are made with all-black powder coated steel. With this business venture, I want to target the every day "backyard BBQ'er" and have these smokers sit on their back porch/deck. From the various company's out there who build smokers, there is very little color and trim details such as stainless steel, wood accents and painted powder coating. I'm looking to change that.
I'm looking for someone to create an initial design for our first prototype. From there, the plan is to create 3-4 more different sized reverse flow smokers with varying design finishes. Final goal would be to have 5 different sized reverse flow smokers to create a "product line" for us to build and sell.
