  • Solar-Powered Cowpea Thresher – Agricultural Machinery Design CONFIDENTIAL · Freelance Jul 2026 – Aug 2026 1 mos KT, Nigeria I designed a complete solar-powered cowpea thresher from concept to manufacturing-ready CAD models. The machine was developed to help small-scale farmers thresh cowpeas efficiently using renewable solar energy—reducing manual labour and post-harvest losses.

    My Responsibilities:

    1. Concept Development: Translated rough sketches and client requirements into fully parametric 3D models in SolidWorks.
    2. Mechanical Design: Designed the threshing drum, concaves, feed hopper, grain outlet, and chassis frame with proper structural integrity.
    3. Solar Integration: Designed mounting brackets and enclosures for the solar panel, battery bank, and DC motor drive system.
    4. DFM (Design for Manufacturing): Applied proper tolerances, sheet metal bend allowances, and weldment preparations for local fabrication.
    5. Assembly & Motion Study: Created full assembly with 50+ parts and ran motion analysis to verify threshing mechanism timing and clearance.
    6. FEA Simulation: Conducted stress analysis on the threshing drum and frame to ensure durability under operational loads.
    7. 2D Manufacturing Drawings: Generated detailed drawings with GD&T, welding symbols, and bill of materials (BOM) for fabricators.
    8. Rendering: Produced photorealistic renders for client presentations and funding proposals.

    Key Results:

    1. Reduced manual threshing time by approximately 70% (estimated based on prototype performance).
    2. Designed for local fabrication using commonly available materials and standard welding techniques.
    3. Delivered complete CAD package including native SolidWorks files, STEP exports, 2D PDF drawings, and BOM.
