I happen to be a relentless problem solver with experience working with Solidworks to produce 3D models and technical documentation for components and assemblies. I recently developed prototype robot grippers for various robotics and factory automation systems with Numatic Engineering. These projects required careful measurement and analysis which led to 3D modeling that was often used to produce drawings for manufacturing or support. In many cases I used 3D printing to create fast, economical, functional prototype components for use in live automation demonstrations. My passion is product design; I love taking on challenging design problems and developing robust, cost effective solutions. I have 7 years of experience in mechanical design; in that time, I’ve worked on projects ranging from candle molds and custom guitar picks to exhaust manifolds and lube pumps. I’m proficient in 3D CAD design, and I currently use Fusion 360 for freelance work. Specialties: • Design for fluid flow: Optimized geometry for pulsed (like an exhaust manifold) and steady state (like coolant passages) flow conditions. Do not currently possess CFD analysis capability for freelance work, but have years of experience optimizing flow passages for high performance applications, and can apply that experience to any fluid design project. • Design for 3D printing: There is a common misconception that 3D printers can create any shape that can be imagined. While 3D printing can create shapes that are impossible with traditional manufacturing techniques, it has its own, unique limitations. Without a solid understanding of these limitations and how to account for them, 3D printing projects can become very frustrating very fast. • Design of mechanisms: Designing a system of parts that work together requires a considerable body of knowledge on top of simple part design. I have made the most of every opportunity to study under expert craftsmen, inventors, product designers, doctors, and engineers to hone his ability to bring increasingly more complex new products to reality. This includes working with some of the foremost physicians tackling difficult challenges in current and next generation LVADs, artificial hearts, blood pumps, and other highly complex class III medical devices. Products I have designed and built are in Times Square, the Disney Parks, the Smithsonian, and implanted in people around the world. To date, I am named as inventor on a half dozen granted and pending patents, including core technologies in products for companies such as Baxa (now Baxter), Thoratec (now Abbott), and Covidien (now Abbott). I started my engineering training with a B.S. Engineering Degree, with a Mechanical Specialty from the Colorado School of Mines. I ontinue my education by working with many Industry & Trade Associations, University Programs, Business Groups and start-up Incubators. I also regularly attend major conferences, training programs, and other industry events in design and related fields including simulation & medical conferences specific to class III active implantable devices and blood pumps. My passion is to improve the world by blending user-focused design, tenacity, and old-world craftsmanship with an intimate understanding of the latest technologies.
