I lead the end-to-end mechanical design of heavy-payload autonomous multi-rotors ā which means I don't use SolidWorks to make things look good. I design for strict weight budgets, aerodynamic clearances, structural stress conditions, and Design for Manufacturing (DfM) principles. My designs get fabricated. The hexacopter chassis I designed (25 kg MTOW, 10 kg payload) was taken from SolidWorks parametric assembly through FEA validation to CNC aluminium prototype coordination. The arm-to-socket junction was redesigned twice based on simulation data before achieving 1.78Ć safety factor at rated load.
