I have a honours degree in Chemical Engineering; a Master’s in Business Leadership (MBL) degree and, registered as a Professional Engineer with ECSA. My experience is in excess of 40 years from the Consulting and Project environment within the Pulp & Paper sector, Industrial Power & Energy Generation, Renewable Energy, Environmental Solutions, Industrial Processes, Water & Effluent treatment, Sustainability related projects in the mining, energy / renewable energy & Agri sector and; limited experience in the Petro-Chem industry. My name is Marco Lopes and I am a Mechanical Design Engineer, with 4 years of experience. I am a young and enthusiastic mechanical engineer passionate about problem solving, design engineering and technology, capable of designing mechanical systems from first principles through to working prototypes. Working in the automotive production industry, I was tasked with the design and simulation of automotive tooling components for companies such as Ford, Opel and BMW. The tooling components formed part of the complete production process line. I have been placed in multiple positions of responsibility throughout my academic career. I have successfully served my term as Head Prefect in my high school, Al-Falaah college (a school that boasts the highest scoring matric results nationally in the year 2016). I have been a campus tutor for Mathematics, Thermodynamics and Physics and I have been allocated the highest budgeted masters research project in the history of UKZN's Aerospace Systems Research Group (ASReG). I am proficient in Solidworks CAD modelling, Simulation execution (FEA, CFD and topology optimization). My Masters has allowed me to efficiently mathematically model systems in Microsoft Excel, predict motion and analyse trends. I have presented graphical analysis of data to a wide variety of audiences both within and out of the engineering space. I am a part of the Phoenix Hybrid Sounding Rocket launch campaign as a member of the ground support team where I am responsible for the rocket lug design and oxidizer measurement systems.
