Superior HD: thanks for the quick response. Does the fabrication of these pieces need to meet an Architectural Woodwork Institute grade; Premium, Custom, or Economy? (https://www.badgermillworkengineering.com/understanding-awi-cabinet-grades/) These grades specify construction details like gaps and seams, door flatness, materials and surface finish. Check that out with the developer. It's likely that Custom grade is sufficient, but verify that and let us know, so the drawings (and product...) show correct details, which would be accepted upon an inspection.

As for value engineering, that may depend upon assembly methods you already use and are setup for. If you use biscuits or blind dowels, than probably best to draw the details that way, rather than specifying pocket screw joinery, which might require new machinery. Would your expected production quantity justify new tooling? Also, are you intending to cut parts on CNC, with fastener locations prepared on the machine?
Thx SG

In the plan view there's half circle..this one is engraved in top sheet metal ?
If so what are the dimensions.

The developer is requesting that we VALUE ENGINEER the furniture. So please choose methods that will save the developer money. HOWEVER..this is for a hotel project, so everything has to be commercial grade and reinforced construction. We will probably go with wood core covered with metal laminate. We have reached out to Wilsonart to get their advise on method of attachment. I believe they have a metal laminate that comes ready with adhesive. I do not have spec for the LED and drawer slide...please specify. You have more experience so please provide the format you feel is best knowing that the designer wants the best while the developer (which is paying) wants to save as much money as possible. And as the manufacturer, we will not sacrifice the durability and reinforcing to make the product last under commercial use. We are providing to the developer a 2 year warranty for all our products
Looking forward to working together. We have a total of 10 designs we need to provide developer shop drawings for.

I am a professional, specialty cabinet designer and manufacturer with over 40 years' experience, see www.eastboard.com.
I'd like to become your go-to source of construction drawings going forward.
Some questions on this one:

Is the 1/2" metal top solid metal, or a wood core covered with metal laminate?
Do you have spec or desire on the method of attaching the metal top to the cabinetry?
What panel goods and finish are desired?
Do you have a spec for the LED lighting and drawer slide, or should we specify?
How does your shop assemble cabinets: glue-and-screw, pocket screw, blind biscuit, Mod-eez, or another means?
Do you have a preferred or standard method of mounting the nightstand to the headboard?
Is the "wood backing" at the rear of the open cubby applied after the cabinet is mounted, thus covering any fasteners?

Eager to get your response and prepare my entry; I will also prepare photorealistic renderings.
Thx, Steve

Built-ins flanking mantel
I'd like to build 'built-in' bookshelves/bookcase units to flank my fireplace mantel. The mantel is original to the house (1924) and I'd like to preserve the design and carry over a few elements into the new units. 1) Primary objective/requirement is for the units to blend in with the mantel , or otherwise compliment it. I want the wall to be a focal point of the room. 2) I'm open to incorporating new design elements in the bookcases/bookshelves, provided it works with elements of the mantel design. 3) id like to pick up at least one of the characteristic elements of the mantel (j-curve on outside or the pillar detail just under the mantel. 4) will consider various heights/styles for the units. Design considerations might include bookcase units with a top/surface matching the height of the mantel, a bookcase/shelve unit with a counter/open shelf typical counter height, or a floor-to-ceiling (or lower) shelving unit w lower cabinets.
Transformer Wooden Deck Chair

Re-design our Big Book Teaching Centre (Furniture)
Our Big Book Teaching Centre has been successfully sold in its existing design for nearly 2 decades to Australian schools. We would like to modernize the design incorporating a number of new features whilst still retaining the functionality of the item. More detail in the attachments.
Scenic Fabrication Technician – SketchUp to Build Files
We are a fabrication and installation team producing real-world scenic set pieces, arches, and experiential structures. We are not looking for design concepts. We are looking for technical specialists who can take existing SketchUp models and visual references and convert them into precise, build-ready fabrication files for carpenters and CNC production. You will be working from provided assets (SketchUp file + reference images) and translating them into a complete, usable fabrication package. This includes: Breaking models into individual buildable components Accounting for material thickness and real-world constraints Designing practical joinery and connection methods Producing clean DXF files for CNC cutting Creating clear, dimensioned shop drawings Your work should allow a fabrication team to build the structure without interpretation or redesign. Project Context The structures are: Large-scale scenic pieces (arches, frames, installations) Built from wood and/or sheet goods Fabricated using CNC + traditional carpentry Installed on-site, often under time constraints This means your files must reflect: Structural logic Assembly sequence Transport considerations What Success Looks Like A successful submission results in: A clean set of files a CNC operator can cut immediately A carpenter being able to assemble the structure step-by-step No missing dimensions, guesswork, or ambiguity Important This is a translation and fabrication problem, not a design exercise. If your submission focuses on visual modeling instead of build logic, it will not be considered. Opportunity We are actively looking for ongoing collaboration with the right technician for future fabrication projects.
