Experience

  • SENIOR AUTOCAD & REVIT TECHNICIAN DCSC Ltd · Self-employed Aug 2010 – Present 10 yrs 1 mos undefined, England, United Kingdom Having joined this company at its foundation and being solely responsible for all CAD drawings that leave the office, I have made an invaluable contribution to hundreds of projects over the past ten years. As well as designing and launching the company website, I wrote detailed technical notes, letter templates and marketing brochures. My main duties are the organisation and generation of 2D drawings using AutoCAD, creating 3D models using Revit, creating and updating CAD standards and maintenance of the company’s IT resources. Larger projects include the luxury apartments at Perran Foundry in Perranworthal, a new warehouse & production plant at Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm in Penhallow and the new hub building and retaining walls at the east Park & Ride in Truro.
  • GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS ANALYST Western Power Distribution · Full-time Feb 2010 – Aug 2010 6 mos undefined, England, United Kingdom My main duty within this company was the updating of obsolete electrical maps for South Wales and West Cornwall. It was my responsibility to ensure all electrical substations and power cables were connected on each drawing or “tile”, and that these cables were fully compatible with adjacent tiles. This complicated process, using an A1 digitisation tablet that allowed me to trace objects from paper maps and update them digitally using the CAD package Bentley Microstation, required unerring concentration and attention to detail for long periods.
  • ARCHITECTURAL CAD TECHNICIAN SPS Architects · Part-time Aug 2009 – Feb 2010 6 mos undefined, England, United Kingdom By branching out into the field of Architecture, I aimed to achieve a broader appreciation of other disciplines involved in the construction industry and improve my skills as a technician. It was my job to produce planning & building regulations drawings and ensure an efficient and effective service for our clients. My work included the conceptualisation of internal layouts, drawing up plans & elevations and liaising with manufacturers to ensure my designs were practical and achievable.
  • REINFORCED CONCRETE CAD TECHNICIAN Derek Gray & Associates · Full-time Feb 2009 – Aug 2009 6 mos undefined, England, United Kingdom Initially intended as a six-week stay to cover high work load, I impressed at the company and was rewarded with an extended contract. It was my duty to draw and schedule numerous flights of reinforced concrete staircases for the Olympic Village shopping centre in Stratford, London. I also carried out similar work on reinforced concrete slabs and retaining walls.
  • CAD MANAGER Warren Greig & Partners · Full-time Sep 2003 – Jan 2009 5 yrs 4 mos undefined, England, United Kingdom I started out at this company as a trainee CAD Technician, taking steps to learn the trade and translate the structural engineer’s designs from paper to screen, progressing over the years to head of the drawing team. Here I worked on many projects of varying complexity, ranging from small scale barn conversions to multi-million pound hotel complexes, gaining experience in an abundance of different construction methods including reinforced concrete, timber & steel frames, drainage schemes and road layouts.

I was responsible for the standard and content of all drawings that left the office. This would involve checking the work of others and monitoring resources and deadlines. I was also responsible for the supervision of newly appointed technicians, trainees and work experience placements. I took it upon myself to monitor and fix any problems that occurred with the office’s computer network. I also assisted with important field work such as levelling, measuring up, percolation tests and manhole surveys.
