About
I'm a mechanical design engineer in northeast Ohio. Ten years in, all of it designing things that actually got manufactured: siding and trim, commercial refrigeration cases, nitrogen gas springs for stamping presses. My day job is product and compliance engineering at a building products company, and I take on freelance CAD and design work evenings and weekends.
Most of my work is in SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Parts, assemblies, production drawings, BOMs. You'll get the native files plus STEP, IGES, DWG or PDF, whatever your shop or your next engineer needs.
Sheet metal is my strongest suit. Roll forming, stamping, brake work, punch and press tooling, weldments, coatings. I've also done a lot of design-for-manufacturing cleanup over the years, usually after a part came back from the shop unmachinable or way over quote. It's cheaper to catch that in CAD, which is where I come in.
Some other things I get hired for:
- Building product code compliance. FBC, ICC, AAMA/FGIA, CCMC for Canada, plus UL, NSF and DOE from my refrigeration years. I've taken products through test labs and certification start to finish, paperwork included.
- Reverse engineering. Faro arm certified. Give me a physical part or an old paper print and I'll send back a clean model and drawing.
- High pressure assemblies. I spent four years designing 1,500-5,000 PSI gas spring manifolds, so tight tolerances and real safety factors are familiar territory.
- Python scripting for engineering busywork. Drawing packages, document processing, batch conversions.
On working with me: I respond fast, I'll give you a real number and a real lead time before we start, and if your design has a manufacturing problem I'll say so instead of just modeling it anyway. Not sure about hiring someone new? Start me on one part or one drawing package and judge from that.
BS in Mechanical Engineering & Technology, University of Dayton. ISO 9001 and AS9100 trained, former company internal auditor. FAA Part 107 drone pilot, which comes in handy more often than you'd think.

Product Engineer / Compliance Engineer - Metals, Vinyl & Composites
Associated Materials · Full-time
Jan 2025 –
Present
1 yrs 7 mos
Cuyahoga Falls, OH, USA
Product and compliance engineering for metal, vinyl, and composite building products - siding, trim, soffit, and accessories.
- Led the design and launch of hurricane-rated replacement soffits to Florida Building Code (FBC) and ICC requirements, from concept through test lab approval and market release.
- Own AAMA / FGIA, FBC, ICC, and CCMC (Canada) compliance: certification submittals, regulatory documentation, and the recertification lifecycle for an entire product line.
- Led VAVE cost-reduction projects on metal products, taking cost out without giving up performance or appearance.
- Work with plant teams on roll forming and metal coating processes at West Salem, Ohio and other facilities to improve yield, durability, and throughput.
- Built Python automation tools that handle recurring compliance workflows and document processing.
- Led AI adoption across the engineering department: evaluated and integrated tooling for quality control and process improvement, and trained the team on it. -
