Investigation of Magnetically coupled Assisted-electrode Wire-EDM (Electro Discharge Machining) slicing of Si ingot.

Kerf loss (material loss) has become an important parameter while slicing Si for solar cells because of its high demand in photovoltaic cell industries. Recently new promising methods like Wire-EDM to slice Si wafers are under development.
▪
Use of assisted electrodes has a positive effect on slicing rate (increase), and surface roughness (decrease) Use of magnetic field has a positive effect on slicing rate (increase), and kerf loss (decrease). It was observed that the slicing rate increased by 15 % while kerf loss reduced by 3 % when using a coupled magnetic field with assisted electrode.
