Since young, I've been fascinated by how things function, tearing things apart to see how they work but rarely putting them back together. After my mother became tired of having to take pieces of the family computer to the local IT shop, she challenged 5 year old me to fix it instead. Naturally, I accepted, and of course, it exploded. Incidentally, the massive spark that ended the life of that poor HP Pavilion 6630 was also what piqued my curiosity in how things operate and, more importantly, how they fail.

I spent much of my time at Singapore Polytechnic working on various projects in the machine shop or design studios, and there, I fell in love with the process of discovering innovative solutions to seemingly complex problems. My supervisor suggested that I start a firm offering R&D solutions once I graduated, and after some consideration, I decided to go for it and Ideal Factory was born.

After four years at Ideal Factory managing a variety of projects while also handling the day-to-day operations I burnt out on several occasions. During the Covid19 lockdown, many projects were suspended or terminated altogether. It was during this time that Shafiq and I decided to join forces under mēkā and confront the future together.

mēkā brought together Shafiq's business acumen with my technical and engineering expertise. This allowed us to evolve from a reseller of 3D printers and materials into the Product Innovation agency of today with the belief that “Everything is figureoutable” and that every problem has a solution if you look hard enough and usually in the most unexpected places.
