Your workspace overview

The workspace facilitates collaboration with clients on job contracts by consolidating all work resources in one location. Your workspace includes information about your job contract and action buttons to manage the contract. Every job contract has a separate workspace, including multiple workspaces for an individual client that hires you for several contracts.

Workspace features and tools

The workspace for job contracts helps you with the following:

  • Chat with clients and share large files
  • Initiate Zoom calls with video or audio
  • Coordinate meetings with your clients
  • See your income history for the job contract
  • View the Work Journal and your billable hours (hourly jobs)
  • Manage task list (hourly jobs)
  • Upload work submissions for client review, task approvals, and manage milestones (fixed-rate jobs)
  • View the client’s initial job, contract scope, and your job work application
  • Request a new job contract with your client
  • Issue partial or refund payment refund to a client

How to use the workspace for a job contract

You can find the steps to manage your contract by clicking the action buttons and the ••• dropdown in the upper right corner of your contract workspace. The contract’s dropdown settings may differ based on the type of job (i.e., hourly vs. fixed-rate) and initial terms of the work. Moreover, you can find other contract options by clicking between the contract tabs.

Overview tab

Your contract’s overview tab provides the following:

  • Overview: An overview of the contract’s task list
  • Earnings: Your earnings for the current week
  • Files: Recently shared files
  • Tasks: Create new job tasks
  • Share files: share large files and documents

When working on a fixed-rate job contract, the overview page will show your milestone tasks and timelines. The fixed-rate overview allows you to submit work for payment, request milestone changes, and propose new milestones.

The page also shows action buttons that guide you to the subsequent task for a job contract. The next steps for fixed-rate contracts may include the following:

  • Submit work: You’ll find the Submit work button prompt if you want to request a payout from the contract’s escrow
  • Review: You’ll see a Leave review button if you or the client finish the milestones and end the contract
  • Review deadline: You’ll see a two-week review deadline when the contract ends

Chat & files tab

The Chat & files tab allows you to send messages to clients and make a voice/video call (Zoom). You can also use the chat feature to coordinate meetings and share large files.

Work journal tab

The Work Journal tab records your work hours and recent transactions for hourly job contracts. The Work Journal can edit task activities, add a manual time entry, or delete time blocks. All work for an hourly contact is automatically tracked with the Timer app, and billable timesheets are displayed on the Work Journal tab.

The Work Journal tab highlights your billable hours for a specific job contract. If you want to view the details, modify memos, or delete time for a particular day, click the < and > arrows to move between dates (or use the 🗓 calendar icon). Then, choose a screenshot for the time block you wish to examine or alter. You can add a manual time entry by clicking the Add time button in the top right corner of the Work Journal page.

🛰️ Remember: You can only add or remove time or edit work activity notes for the current work week’s billing period (Monday to Sunday UTC timezone). Work activities for prior billing periods can be viewed and can’t be changed.

The Work Journal also shows work hours for your current billing period (Monday to Sunday / UTC timezone). Visit your Transaction page to view your hourly work history from earlier billing periods.

Terms & settings tab

The Terms & Settings tab highlights the job contract’s current settings, maximum weekly hours, and the billable rate. The page also has a link to your client’s initial job listing and application for the work.

This page also displays reviews, if any were left by you or the client related to the job contract.

Questions and answers

⚡ What is the contract workspace for job contracts?

The workspace is a dedicated collaboration area for each separate job contract. The workspace contains contract details, messages, tasks, file sharing, and billable hours. Each job contract has a unique workspace, even if you have several active contracts with a single client.


⚡ How do I find the task list for a contract?

You can view your job’s task list by visiting the Overview tab of an hourly job contract. Only hourly job contracts use task lists, and fixed-rate jobs have milestones associated with specific work activities.


⚡ How can I update a work activity or delete billable hours?

You can view the timesheets for an hourly job contract by clicking the Work Journal tab of the contract. The timesheets show your hours for the current week’s billing period (Monday to Sunday / UTC timezone).

Steps to view time blocks, update work activities, or delete time blocks for a specific day:

  • Pick date: click the < and > arrows adjacent to the date (or use 🗓 calendar icon) to select a date
  • Edit screenshot: Click the ▢ square to the left of any time blocks to modify the work activity or delete billable time

Note: You can only add or remove time or edit work activity notes for the current work week’s billing period. Work activities for prior billing periods can be viewed and can’t be changed.


⚡ How can I view contract timesheets for current and past billing periods?

Pick a specific workday from your job contract’s timesheets with the < and > arrows (or use 🗓 calendar icon):

  • Current billing period: Workdays with billable hours are highlighted on your calendar dropdown with a grey dot.
  • Past billing periods: You can also view your timesheets for weeks outside the contract’s current billing period. You cannot change the work activities or delete hours for time outside of your current billing period.
  • Past invoices: Visit your Transactions page to view the billable hours that fall outside of your currently billing period.

⚡ Where can I find the files shared by my client in the workspace?

Follow the steps:

  • Go to your Contacts list
  • Select the job contact
  • Click Chat & files tab

⚡ How do I view invoices for hours billed outside the current billing period?

You can view the invoices for the prior billing periods of a job contract by visiting your transactions page.
