About

For the past 7.5 years I have been working as a freelance mechanical design engineer providing mechanical engineering solutions to problems faced in today's industry. I specialise in 3D modelling and I am qualified to "Solidworks Certified Professional" status. A qualification recognised by the worldwide CAD community as proof of my level of ability to use the Solidworks CAD package to effectively implement mechanical design solutions.

In my most recent role I have been working as a contract design manager (hands on design as well as management) for a company which manufactures bespoke packaging machinery and vision inspection systems for the pharmaceutical industry.

Clients include such household names as Smith & Nephew, Reckitt Benckiser, Johnson & Johnson & Boots. Responsibilities include overseeing permanent and contract design staff using Solidworks. As well as managing the manufacturing personnel during the build phase to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget. In this role I have also been “hands on design” in delivering design solutions from concept to installation as well as taking care of the design management tasks and also meeting and negotiating design solutions with the end user / clients.

In this role I have been responsible for high end engineering design, designing all parts of the system from scratch, including conveyor systems, machined components, sheet metal, fabrications, steel structures, and electrical components to deliver a high end well engineered solution for the client.

In previous roles I have been senior mechanical design engineer during the design of high and low temperature furnaces for carbon fibre production facility along with ancillary process components and associated pipework and structural steelwork, surface treatment plants and curing ovens.

I have designed many conveyor systems for the food industry, the mining industry and materials handling. I was a senior design engineer as part of a team who designed a fully automated factory for the manufacture of defence weapons for Apache helicopters, the end client being the MOD. The transfer systems and conveyors which I designed had to withstand explosive forces equivalent to 1/3 stick of dynamite, I also facilitated the test of these components with an outside agency.

I have developed a wide range of experience in engineering design, project management and as a design manager working for clients such as Chemring Countermeasures (mod), Bluestar Fibres (Carbon Fibre Production) Kromek (radiation monitoring), Sapphire Inspection Systems (X-ray inspection machinery), KV Automation (clean room medical machinery), Nestle (food processing machinery), McCains, (food processing machinery) Morrisons (food processing machinery) & Ideal Boilers (commercial industrial and domestic boilers) in the UK, Europe and the Far East. Designing innovative solutions to often complex engineering specifications.

I consider myself to be an expert in Solidworks 3D cad system and an expert in fabrication, sheet metal, structural steel and machinery design. My ambitions are to continue my success as a design manager and move into new roles to further develop my experience.
