Provide resident mechanical consultancy and QA/QC supervision for a university campus development with an overall project value of approximately EGP 20 billion. The project includes academic buildings, laboratories, student and staff accommodation, auditoriums, sports facilities and associated mechanical services.
My responsibilities combine technical document review, site inspections, engineering assessment and follow-up of corrective actions, with a focus on installation quality, coordination, maintainability and readiness for testing and commissioning.
TECHNICAL OFFICE AND ENGINEERING REVIEW
• Review mechanical shop drawings, material submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs) against approved design documents, project specifications and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Check mechanical layouts, equipment connections and installation details for coordination with architectural, structural and electrical works.
• Review ductwork and piping routes, equipment access, valve locations, drainage connections and maintenance clearances, identifying conflicts and incomplete details before acceptance.
• Prepare technical responses to contractor enquiries and consultant review comments, explaining the required corrections and supporting requirements.
• Assess proposed equipment and accessories against approved submissions and project requirements, including relevant capacities, operating duties and installation arrangements.
CHILLED-WATER SYSTEMS AND PUMP ROOMS
• Inspect chilled-water secondary pump rooms, distribution pipework, headers and associated equipment, checking installation completeness against approved schematics and BOQs.
• Review pump installation arrangements, base fixing, anchoring, vibration isolation and supplier alignment requirements.
• Check the provision and arrangement of isolation valves, balancing valves, strainers, flexible connections, pressure and temperature instruments, flow meters, air vents and drain points.
• Inspect expansion tanks, air separators, make-up water connections and chemical treatment provisions, identifying missing components and discrepancies requiring contractor clarification.
• Assess piping workmanship, joint preparation, welding quality, alignment, supports and insulation, and follow up corrective work before subsequent inspection stages.
• Review requests to introduce chilled water or operate equipment against installation completeness, supplier readiness and the required inspection and test documentation.
AIR HANDLING UNITS AND HVAC INSTALLATIONS
• Inspect Air Handling Units (AHUs), chilled-water coil connections and associated ductwork, checking conformity with approved hook-up details.
• Review control valves and actuators, strainers, balancing valves, flexible connectors, unions, vents, drains and measuring points, as applicable to each approved arrangement.
• Check condensate drainage connections, equipment protection, internal cleanliness, access provisions and maintenance requirements.
• Verify equipment fixing and vibration isolation arrangements against supplier installation details, requesting supporting information where necessary.
• Review the completeness of controls, thermostats and BMS interfaces within the mechanical inspection scope and coordinate outstanding requirements with the relevant disciplines.
FANS AND MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT QUALITY
• Inspect roof-mounted ventilation and exhaust fans, including supports, fixing, flexible connections, corrosion condition and accessibility.
• Identify abnormal vibration, belt movement, bearing-related observations and other operational concerns during witnessed equipment runs.
• Coordinate requests for supplier inspection and corrective work, including pulley alignment, belt tension adjustment, bearing checks and balancing where required.
• Review supplier findings and corrective action reports and follow up outstanding items before equipment acceptance.
CLEANROOM AND SPECIALIST SPACE UTILITIES
• Assess mechanical utility requirements for cleanroom and laboratory equipment based on available equipment information and the assigned project scope.
• Prepare utility schedules covering compressed air, water supply and drainage connections, including connection locations, pipe materials, sizes and local pressure regulation requirements.
• Coordinate equipment utility needs with available building services and identify information requiring confirmation from equipment suppliers.
• Support mechanical review and engineering calculation tasks for auditorium works, considering ventilation, equipment requirements and coordination with the building layout.
QA/QC REPORTING AND ACCEPTANCE SUPPORT
• Review Work Inspection Requests (WIRs) and Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) within the assigned mechanical scope.
• Prepare photographic inspection reports and formal technical correspondence documenting installation defects, incomplete works and required corrective actions.
