About
I am a Product Developer with over 10 years of experience developing assistive technology from early prototypes through to batch manufacture.
I enjoy solving difficult design problems and creating products that can make a genuine difference. My experience combines Autodesk Fusion CAD, prototyping, technical drawings and design for manufacture with hands-on skills in CNC machining, laser cutting, 3D printing, assembly and quality control.
I have also managed production schedules, costing, stock systems, purchasing, batch builds and assembler training. I enjoy both the creative problem-solving involved in product design and the hands-on work needed to manufacture it successfully.

Responsibilities included: • managing incoming component quality control • creating a linked spreadsheet-based system for BOMs, purchasing, stock control and product-status requests • establishing physical stock storage and stocktaking processes • interviewing and training assemblers • overseeing multiple batch builds across several products • managing production costs and schedules.
- Senior Designer Bristol Braille Technology · Self-employed Oct 2016 – Apr 2021 4 yrs 6 mos Bristol, England, United Kingdom I returned to a design role to develop an existing assistive-technology product and create a new one. Responsibilities included: • developing working prototypes from the Director’s specifications • designing complex customer-facing enclosures, internal structural chassis and assembly-friendly fixing points • simple PCB design • applying manufacturing tolerances throughout the design • refining prototypes following build testing and user feedback • researching and introducing new equipment and processes, including environmental test chambers and resin printing to achieve 0.1 mm accuracy • developing resin-printing, washing and curing processes • working with external companies and contractors to resolve technical issues • producing technical drawings and 3D manufacturing files • creating and managing BOMs and purchasing information, including one product with approximately 137 unique components • assisting with product certification.
- Product Designer Bristol Braille Technology · Self-employed Aug 2014 – Oct 2015 1 yrs 2 mos Bristol, England, United Kingdom I developed assistive-technology products from prototype feedback through to manufacture, combining CAD design with hands-on prototype building. Responsibilities included: • designing assemblies with more than 100 parts in Autodesk Fusion • simple PCB design • producing technical drawings and manufacturing files for external suppliers • using CNC mills, laser cutters, filament 3D printers, and metalworking and woodworking tools • sourcing and purchasing components • assembling manufactured and purchased parts • providing design-for-manufacture and assembly feedback • producing assembly instructions and quality-control documentation.
- Assembler Bristol Braille Technology · Self-employed Nov 2013 – Aug 2014 9 mos Bristol, England, United Kingdom I assembled product prototypes and provided feedback on their design, manufacture and assembly. Responsibilities included: • laser cutting, 3D printing and CNC machining • stocktaking and reporting • gluing, fastening, alignment and soldering • drilling, filing and cutting • completing quality-control checks and reporting issues.
