About
Hi, I’m João, a Mechanical Engineering student in Portugal. I specialize in full-cycle prototype development, taking projects from initial creative concepts all the way through engineering, testing, and final CAD design.
--Education & Projects--
Alongside my engineering degree, my practical background is rooted in automotive development. I have hands-on experience developing mechanical components from scratch for the Formula E-Vee prototype, as well as actively contributing to automotive projects with my university's Formula Student team.
--Strengths & Skills--
I approach product development with a blend of creative problem-solving and strict engineering principles. My process covers everything from brainstorming and structural testing to generating reliable geometry that translates seamlessly into physical production.
- End-to-End Prototyping: Concept generation, creative problem-solving, and functional prototype development.
- SolidWorks Expertise: Complex mechanical assemblies, precise part design, and native/export file generation (STEP, STL, DXF).
- Engineering & Simulation: Finite Element Analysis (FEA) structural testing and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) optimization.
- Production-Ready Drawings: 2D manufacturing drawings with accurate tolerances for CNC machining, 3D printing, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Reverse Engineering: Adapting reference geometry, sketches, or photos into functional mechanical solutions.
If you need an engineering partner who can creatively develop your idea from scratch and deliver reliable, fabrication-ready results, let's discuss your project!

Contributed to the end-to-end design cycle of electric vehicle prototypes for international Formula Student competitions, focusing specifically on powertrain, drivetrain, and structural systems. Managed the complete mechanical workflow: from initial conceptualization and 3D CAD modeling in SolidWorks to FEA structural validation and weight optimization.
A major focus of my work was designing complex, lightweight aluminum components strictly optimized for CNC machining. This required generating precise 2D manufacturing drawings and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing for outsourced fabrication. Once the parts were manufactured and delivered, I worked hands-on in the team garage to inspect the components and perform the final mechanical assembly directly on the physical prototype, bridging the gap between theoretical CAD and practical, physical engineering.
Education
- Instituto Superior Técnico Bachelor's, Mechanical Engineering, A 2023 – 2027 (expected) Activities and Societies: FST Lisboa (Formula Student) Formula E-Vee Project Mechanical Engineering Student Association Undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering with a core focus on product development, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes. Academic coursework heavily emphasizes parametric 3D CAD modeling, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and structural optimization. Actively bridged the gap between theoretical engineering and physical manufacturing by applying classroom principles directly to the hands-on development of electric vehicle prototypes within university automotive teams.
Other experience
- Prototype Development Engineer - Formula E-Vee Project Led full-cycle prototype development for mechanical components, taking the project from initial creative conceptualization through rigorous engineering testing and final CAD delivery. Applied creative problem-solving alongside Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) to ensure the designs were not only functional in theory but practically optimized for real-world production. Delivered complete, fabrication-ready 3D models and technical documentation.
