Experience

  • Draughtsman Windhoek Graphic Research and Design · Self-employed Feb 2016 – Present 10 yrs 5 mos Windhoek, Khomas Region, Namibia For the past ten years, I have operated my own engineering and design firm, where I've had the opportunity to support numerous local mines and industrial clients. Our core focus has been on structural steelwork and large-scale, API 650-compliant tanks tailored for both gold and uranium mining operations.

A few major highlights from this decade include executing complex modifications to heavy mine structures. Notably, we successfully extended 10-ton overhead box girder cranes by approximately 20% of their original length without downgrading the Safe Working Load (SWL)—with all structural calculations verified by my in-house engineer. You can view a portfolio of these projects and more examples of our capabilities on our website.
  • Draughtsman Dundee Precious Metals · Contract May 2014 – Feb 2016 1 yrs 9 mos Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia I worked on different projects, doing 3D modeling & draughting.
In this position I have gained valuble experiance with waterIn this role, I worked on a variety of projects focusing on 3D modeling and drafting, which allowed me to gain valuable experience with furnace water-cooled jackets and off-gas takeoff systems. One of the more challenging tasks involved a water-cooled furnace roof; I had to successfully re-engineer the original layout by dividing it into three separate, functional sections.
  • Draughtsman Salzgitter Mannesmann Stainless Tubes · Full-time Jan 2011 – May 2013 2 yrs 4 mos Houston, TX, United States During this period, I provided drafting work and multi-level support to the engineering team. What I enjoyed most was helping the team resolve equipment issues. For example, I assisted with design changes to an annealing furnace conveyor system and performed fault-finding on a 'feed & turn' gearbox for a pilger machine.

My final project involved developing a new conveyor system that integrated various test modules for stainless steel tube quality inspection. For this system, I designed a unique mechanism from scratch that lowers the tubes into a cradle. This not only prevented any damage to the finished product but had the added benefit of considerably reducing ambient noise.

Education

  • Pretoria West Technical College N5, Engineeering, Red Seal 1986 – 1988 My journey began in 1986 with an Electromechanical Technician apprenticeship at Iscor’s Pretoria Works in South Africa. This deep, foundational background in how machinery actually operates is exactly what makes me exceptionally skilled at developing practical solutions for my customers today.

I spent about 23 years pursuing hands-on fault-finding and troubleshooting across both South African and American industrial sectors. During that time, I frequently created custom drawings to help clients clearly visualize how specific repairs and modifications would benefit their operations. In 2009, I decided to pivot full-time into professional drafting services. Today, the specialized design services I offer include transforming legacy paper blueprints into precise 2D and 3D models, as well as providing production-ready flat-pack DXF files for seamless manufacturing.
