The first step is to understand the design objective, the performance requirements and any other relevant information. Define the performance requirements, including loads, stresses, material properties and environmental factors. Then I start to design various solutions using sketches, mind maps and basic 3D models. At this stage, we evaluate each concept in terms of functionality, feasibility and cost and, if there are any changes, I change them until we have found the right concept. Finally, I complete the 3D design with all the details and make a 2D drawing if the product can be manufactured.
