Description:
We’re developing a new protein shaker bottle called Twystr — a modern twist on supplement mixing. Unlike traditional shakers, Twystr includes a built-in chamber that holds dry powder (e.g., protein) separately and releases it into the liquid on demand with a twist or other mechanism.

This contest is for the best concept + CAD model of the bottle design, focusing on form + function + creativity.

🔧 What We're Looking For:
A clean, modern shaker bottle design (ergonomic, BPA-free plastic look)
Integrated dry powder compartment that releases contents into the main chamber when activated
Easy to use and easy to clean.
Satisfying to use. Major bonus points for something that feels cool to use, like a spring loaded mechanism.
Dishwasher safe.
You can design a twist-release, button-push, or sliding-door style mechanism — show us your best idea!
Optional but appreciated: simple animations or exploded views of how it works
🧾 Deliverables:
3D CAD files (.STP or .STL preferred)
Exploded view or annotated diagram showing how the mechanism works
Optional: 3D renderings or visuals to show style + use-case (great for presale materials)
Optional: brief design notes or concept sketches explaining your approach
🧠 Notes:
Bottle should be designed with plastic injection molding in mind
Top priority is a sealed, leak-proof solution that functions well and looks sleek
We’re seeking a design to refine and prototype, not just a visual mockup
Winner Prize:
💰 $1,600 USD (open to potential bonuses for quality design)
(We will likely also offer follow-up work to refine DFM or test iterations with the winner)

Submissions will be evaluated based on the following:

Functionality & Mechanism Design (40%)
Does the design include a creative and feasible mechanism to release powder into the liquid chamber?
Is it dishwasher safe?
Is it easy to clean?
Is it leakproof?
Is the mechanism intuitive, easy to use, and manufacturable?
Aesthetic Design & Ergonomics (25%)
Is the shaker bottle visually appealing, modern, and consumer-friendly?
Does it look comfortable to hold and easy to use (e.g., twist tops, grip areas)?
CAD Quality & Technical Detail (20%)
Are files well-structured and usable for further development (e.g., .STP or .STL format)?
Is the design detailed enough to pass off to an engineering team for refinement?
Presentation (10%)
Clear renderings or annotated diagrams explaining the mechanism are appreciated
Bonus: exploded views, visual flow of powder release, or animation (optional)
Manufacturability Consideration (5%)
Preference given to designs that consider real-world materials and injection molding constraints

Designs that are purely visual with no functional mechanism for powder release
Overly complex or fragile mechanisms that would be difficult to manufacture or clean
Concepts that copy existing shaker bottles (e.g., BlenderBottle) without meaningful innovation
Low-effort submissions with minimal detail or no explanation of how the product works
Mesh balls, mixing springs, or traditional shaker designs — I’m looking for a unique internal release system.
AI-generated concepts with no clear engineering logic or real-world feasibility
Ask for Sample:
To better evaluate your design approach, please include: A basic sketch, render, or diagram that shows your concept for how the powder release mechanism would function (e.g., twist, button, slider, etc.) A short explanation (2–3 sentences) of how your mechanism works and why it’s practical If possible, a quick screenshot of your CAD progress or early-stage model (optional but helpful) This doesn’t need to be fully polished — I just want to see your initial thinking and direction before diving into full development.

Additional Information
Important Note on Patentability:
We are looking for a unique and original design that may be eligible for a utility patent. Please avoid copying existing products on the market (such as BlenderBottle, Cyclone Cup, etc.). The winning design should include a novel powder-release mechanism and a structurally unique configuration. Bonus points for entries that explain how the mechanism works in a patent-worthy way.

Note on Prior Art:
There is an expired patent that covers a push-button activated trap door release system for supplement bottles. While this design is now in the public domain and can technically be reused, we are specifically looking for a novel mechanism that deviates from this common structure—ideally one that could support a new utility patent.
For example, a twist-to-release, rotating sleeve, spring-loaded seal, or unique sealing geometry would be strong directions—as long as the function is materially different from a simple button-drop trap door.

Also, keep in mind in the design, that protein, when left in the bottle, or in a hot car, can clump and become a little bit sticky. is your design capable of overcoming that? can you still get all the protein in the water, even if its a little sticky? we dont want to lose any of the protein or whatever supplement is in there between holding it in the chamber, and dispensing it into the water

Also, if you have animations to share, I really appreciate exploded views or simple short animations about how these designs would work. if its an animation, mp4 format is easiest for my macbook to read as i dont have the ability to open stl or step files on this computer.
