Contest Ended, Winner(s) have been selected.
Description:
Our company, GnomeBOT, is working on a garden automation tool and we need a design for the product case. The case will look like a gnome, and willHow did we come up with a gnome?
Think about the home automation tools you've seen. They either look like a 90's router (box with antennas out of the top), or they're sleek modern works of art. Think about the Nest thermostat. What does it look like? Your grandma's thermostat, right? Except much more modern. That's what we're going for: a nod at your grandma's gnome, but modern.
Points of consideration:
> Our device is a gnome, and a computer/robot. We're looking for a modern way to blend the two.
>The gnome will house electronic components including sensors (with external probes which will plug in via ports), a 16x2 LCD, a PCB, and an antenna.
>The final product will be waterproof. Avoid any areas that could pool water.
>The product will go outside in customer's yards. Consider a base or large footprint to keep the unit stable
>There will be plugs for sensors connecting to the gnome. Please plan an area for 5-8 probes to connect.
>Design will need to be printed as 2 halves that come together once the internal components are in place.
Wants:
We'll be evaluating each design based on these criteria:>Design asthetics: Does the gnome look modern, and like it belongs alongside other sleek home automation devices?
>Emotion: Does the gnome's feature, facial expression, pose, apparel, etc. convey modern, happy, wise?
>Dimensions: Would the figurine fit a 4"x2"x7" cavity inside for components?
>Creative LCD placement: Does the design incorporate the LCD in a creative and natural way?
>Usability: Is the design and file something we can continue to tweak and iterate?
>3D printability: Can the design be printed easily?
Don't Wants:
We're not looking for a troll, or a dwarf, or a smurf, or an elf, or Santa.
Software:
- Blender
Additional Information
Gnome should be 10" tall. For your submission, please submit a rendering as a jpeg.
We'll also need an stl and obj file so we can 3D print the gnome.
*****EDIT 7/3/2017********************
Of the designs we've received so far, our favorite look is #42. However, this design does not show how the case would fit together, etc.
Our favorite design files are from #45. This designer has spent time and attention on how the case would fit together, how it would stand, where the screen and plugs would go, etc.
If someone were able to combine the design of #42 with technical details of #45, we'd have a winner!
*****EDIT 7/6/2017********************
Just about 10 hours to go! We've narrowed the results down to what we believe are the top few entries based on our needs.
One quick reminder to all designers that we are looking for a case for an expensive piece of technology. This isn't a toy. We do have a playful marketing piece, but we have to present a device, not a toy.

#102 Gnomebot V4 Face update
by Pablo Gosso
Hi Gardener ,
This is what I meant when I say we can make it less toy-like and more neutral.
Here the pose is more important and its face is neutral so you can gather your attention to the screen.
As you can see I also tilt the head to be facing up. This is a short fellow so it should be facing towards people
Looking forward to your feedback, Pablo

Sorry to all people. I was not aware it is prohibited to submit blurry images or concepts. Is only that I got bad experience with previous contests, when "similar" concept from other designers were submitted.
Just trying to keep my ideas hidden but if we all share we all grow as designers.
Hope he best design wins. Pablo

#71 Gnomebot V2
by Pablo Gosso
Hi Gardener.
Following your advice and taste for Robot look and feel and taking a great risk I submit this completely new design.
I added new main features:
1) Active Screen Design for LCD mouth Area. This takes out
2) Also, I modify the sensor placement system from the previous model for a more versatile system where you can put the sensor where you need it to be.
3) Like in last design I created a ribbon material groove, on the closing of 2 halves, to allow proper silicon bonding and prevent and make this Model iP67 according to like requirements.
Sorry guy, seeing how intense this contest got, I`m going blind on this last concept I present.
Hope you find it interesting, I really enjoy working on it. Pablo

Hi everyone,
The contest is over, so if you want to talk to each other about the designs, entries etc, I appreciate if you can do that privately or to open a new thread in the forums, that will be visible for everyone.
As you know, each designer who participated to the contest (and the buyer also) receive email notifications when a comment is posted, so is really annoying to receive notifications each day, even the contest ended.
As for showing the winning entries, I'm sure that Pablo and Eira could do that (in the forums or privately), since the contest ended.
Hopefully this will be the last post here, at the contest page. There is no need to reply to my comment, you could send me a message if something is not clear.
Keep up the good work!
Thanks again,
Lucian

Hi Gardener & Pablo,
After congratulations,
In the recommendations and feedback you tell me that you like the beard and the 2nd winner has no beard! .... I would like to see the first winner to do my analysis and synthesis. To remind you I made 20 entries and I worked hard in this project.
Message for siti,: you deserve it (I wanted to clarify the ambiguous choice)

Hi,

Is it still open?
Adam, REDA, and Pablo--thanks for your comments about materials.
We're 3D printing this first model as a prototype. We'll be iterating on the design many more times before we get to manufacturing.

I will definitely contact the administrator this matter once the Contest is finished.
It kind of feel we are being played.
It kind of feel we are being played.
Either way, let me express one thing:
I really don't feel good about how the client is cannibalizing the concepts trying to make us use things from other concepts into a Frankenstein product. I really feel bad about Zerroug who has though and designed that shape in the first place, and no one would have a clue how to design it if it were for him. For me, this is really unethical.

3D Hjälp | First test project
Hi!

Universal plastic side release buckle adapter
Looking for a 3D printing design for a universal buckle adapter that will connect to a variety of existing side release buckles that you might find on backpacks, luggage or pet collars. The universal buckle adapter will connect to the male end on one side and the female end on the other side of the existing buckle. The design will be for a medium sized buckle that attaches to a 1" wide strap.
Drink Table Design
Hello,
I bought a large 3D printer (optimusP1 60 x 60 x 110 cm) and Mosaic Palette 2S for multi-materials.
I want to design a unique table where I can utilize the size of the printer to build a drink table with dimensions 15 x 25 x 90 with a flat top or even if I add a marble slab as a top while having the rest of the table composed of Lattice Structure that shows the beauty of 3D printing.
As for the multi-materials, I will mainly utilize it for making the support structures tips as a dissolvable filament to allow us to have complex shapes and the support structure can be removed easily.
The filaments will be used are:
1- StoneFil 1.75: https://www.formfutura.com/shop/product/stonefil-2842?category=465&itm_source=site&itm_medium=header&itm_campaign=menu-filaments&itm_content=desktop
2- Ultimaker PVA (water-soluble support material): https://ultimaker.com/materials/pva
Equipment used:
1- https://www.mosaicmfg.com/products/palette-2s
2- https://www.optimus3dp.com/
Bidder shall provide g-code and complete printing instructions if necessary.
Fashion Design - Jewelry Design
I am a fashion company and I am looking for a 3D modeler to help me create My designs. These are NOT designs for fine jewelry but are are usual shapes, very small, that can be used in leather and on leather.
Without divulging all my design secrets, I would like to meet you and discuss if we can come to a compatible agreement. I would also like to see your shop and be able to visit your shop from time to time to see how the designs are coming along.
I am living and working in the fashion district of dtla, so I am close to the heady rush of fashion every second of every day. I am very focused on this label and I have been working on this for a full year now. We have clothes at the patternmakers and are also working on shoes and handbags. This will be a complete collection
Also, at the time of meeting, I would need to have you sign our confidentiality agreement.
Could you bring some samples of your work to this meeting, when we DO set up a time and place for this meeting?? Do you have a website of your work??
What type of 3d modeling software do you use?? Rhino? or other?
Thanks so much for your time.
Warmest Regards,
Kimberley Carson
