CAD Design Recap: 6 New Designs from the Cad Crowd Gallery

spike ball

It’s 2017 now! And this new year will be as full of amazing, innovative new products and CAD design projects as last year. As we like to do from time to time, let’s take a look at some of the awesome pieces we’ve seen uploaded to the Cad Crowd 3D model library from our ever-busy community of CAD designers!

1. Spike Ball 3D Printing Design by Junaid Aziz

spike ball

I dunno what it is about this thing, but it’s great. It’s a ball, but with spikes. Get it? That the spikes are a different color than the ball is really that makes it work. Is it a toy? A sculpture? No idea. Some of the spikes poke out, others don’t. It’s brilliant!

2. Setra Nano Product Design by handsketcher

setra nano

This design is the winning entry from a popular recent design contest, the Setra Nano hospital wall sensor. With 120 entries from 40 designers, competition was stiff. The buyer wanted something modern and fresh, without the typical blocky aesthetic of wall switches. And that’s what they got with this sleek design!

3. Three Friends R, G, & B 3D Modeling Design by Michael Dimou

R, G and B

I’m not entirely sure why these three friends look so unhappy, but it’s pretty cute that they’re friends. Not only are R, G, and B the best of friends, but they can also combine to create all kinds of colors! These little cuties are how you’re seeing all the colors on your computer screen and on your TV, in fact. Perception, personified!

4. PokeBall 3D Printing Design by Deividas

poke ball

It’s a PokeBall! An incredibly realistic looking one — that rendering is super effective!. Hope someone collects it and doesn’t just leave it sitting on the ground there — who knows who might pick it up, or who might be inside! Pokemon jokes! They’re amewsing.

5. Low Poly Bird 3D Modeling Design by sally knefedlow poly bird model

Low poly models are an interesting artistic challenge. To make something look good while keeping the poly count low. This bird is a great example: it’s not exactly photorealistic, but it has it’s own aesthetic merit. It’s like a medium unto itself. It has a kind of impressionistic vibe to it. And it won’t clog up your graphics processor! Win win.

6. FDM 3D Printed Prototype 3D Printing Design by Adam

So this isn’t exactly a CAD design, but it used to be! Here is a 3D printed prototype of the winning design from a recent CAD design contest. The challenge was to create a physical model that can demonstrate a method of skin cancer surgery known as Mohs surgery. Medical model making is a great application of CAD design and 3D printing.

There you have it! As always, these examples are but a small selection of the incredible diversity of CAD design projects that have been uploaded to the Cad Crowd gallery. The Cad Crowd community is always up to something.
