  • Naval Architect WindIon · Freelance May 2026 – Present 5 mos Brest, France At Windion, I work on the development and feasibility assessment of a manoeuvrable floating wind turbine concept, combining naval architecture, hydrodynamics and aerodynamics. I develop manoeuvring models using Marine System Simulator and assess wind energy production with OpenFAST. Using OpenFAST and Capytaine, I analyse the system’s motions and loads in six degrees of freedom. My work also includes generating vessel speed polars, analysing a surface-piercing keel concept, and evaluating wind-assisted propulsion technologies such as Flettner rotors and suction wings.
  • R&D Engineer / Project Lead The Ocean Cleanup · Full-time Nov 2022 – Sep 2025 2 yrs 10 mos Rotterdam, Netherlands As an R&D and Hydrodynamics Engineer at The Ocean Cleanup, I worked on the development, validation, and optimisation of large-scale offshore systems designed to collect plastic from the North Pacific Ocean. My work combined numerical modelling, experimental testing, and offshore data analysis to improve plastic capture, vessel performance, and operational efficiency.

I led an R&D project to develop a Python digital twin of the cleanup system and its two towing vessels, coordinating a multidisciplinary team of engineers, an operations specialist, interns, and a volunteer. The model integrated hydrodynamics, propulsion, manoeuvrability, and fuel consumption to assess design and operational options and identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and operating costs. I also validated OrcaFlex models supporting the scale-up from an 800-metre to a 2,500-metre system.

Alongside this modelling work, I coordinated the research programme for an offshore campaign, developing experiments and analysing sensor, camera, and vessel data to assess system behaviour and plastic retention. I contributed to tank testing at MARIN and CFD research validated through experiments at the University of Amsterdam, connecting simulation results with physical evidence to support engineering decisions.
  • Fluid Mechanics Engineer ADV Propulse · Full-time Apr 2020 – Oct 2022 2 yrs 6 mos Bordeaux, France At ADV Propulse / ADV Tech, I worked as a Fluid Mechanics Engineer, leading the company’s aerodynamic and hydrodynamic expertise for the development of trochoidal rotor technology for wind energy and marine propulsion. I developed OpenFOAM CFD models to predict rotor performance, assess three-dimensional blade-tip losses, and optimise blade geometry. I validated these models through wind-tunnel, water-channel, and larger-scale tank testing.

I also conducted feasibility studies for projects involving ABB, Naval Group, Schottel, and Scandlines, assessing vessel resistance and the suitability of trochoidal propulsion for existing vessels. Alongside this work, I coordinated outsourced CFD studies, automated simulation post-processing with Python, and developed simplified performance prediction tools and design charts to support engineering decisions.
  • CFD Engineer Actiflow · Internship Jan 2019 – Jul 2019 6 mos Breda, Netherlands During my CFD internship at Actiflow, I investigated urban wind flows using OpenFOAM, including the effects of vegetation. I reproduced published wind tunnel experiments to evaluate the accuracy of different turbulence models across several urban configurations. Based on this benchmarking, I recommended the k–ω SST SAS model, which improved prediction accuracy while maintaining computation times comparable to the company’s existing approach. Actiflow subsequently adopted the model for its simulations.
  • CFD Engineer TU Eindhoven · Internship Jan 2018 – Jul 2018 6 mos Eindhoven, Netherlands During my research internship at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), I developed numerical simulation code in Julia to study multiphase flows, focusing on bubble nucleation at a heated wall. This work combined scientific programming with fluid mechanics to investigate bubble formation during boiling.
