About
Senior Mechanical & Mold Design Engineer | 31+ Years of Shop-Floor-Tested Expertise
Professional Summary
I am a Senior Mechanical and Mold Design Engineer with over three decades of comprehensive experience in injection mold design, plastic product development, and manufacturing leadership.
What sets me apart from other designers is my extensive background as a Mold Shop Head. I don’t just design parts in a vacuum; I engineer practical, producible, and maintainable solutions. My decades of hands-on shop floor experience ensure that every CAD model, technical drawing, and CNC toolpath I produce is theoretically sound, aesthetically validated, and highly optimized for real-world manufacturing. I bridge the critical gap between design and the shop floor, saving my clients time, steel, and money.
Core Strengths & Technical Arsenal
🛠️ Design & Engineering Software:
3D CAD / 2D Drafting: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, DraftSight
CAM & CNC Programming: SolidCAM (2D & 3D Milling)
Simulation & Analysis: Moldex3D (Mold Flow Analysis)
Visualization: KeyShot (3D Rendering)
💡 Key Skillsets:
End-to-End Mold Design: Complex core/cavity splitting, gating, cooling, venting, and ejector systems.
Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Optimizing part geometry for injection molding to eliminate defects and reduce cycle times.
Reverse Engineering: Evaluating and fixing flawed client-provided 2D/3D files to ensure they are actually moldable.
Rapid Prototyping: Leveraging SLA/FDM 3D printing for pre-mold validation, fit-testing, and aesthetic reviews.
Process Troubleshooting: Injection molding machine setup, parameter optimization, and root-cause analysis for defects (flash, short shots, warpage, sink marks).
Tooling Remediation: Supervising mold maintenance, precision machining, and welding repairs to extend tool life.
Key Accomplishments & Project Highlights
Over my 31+ year career, I have successfully led the complete lifecycle of plastic injection tooling—from initial concept to mass production. Here is how I have delivered value to my clients and employers:
Design Rescue & Cost Savings (DFM Optimization): Frequently hired to evaluate and reverse-engineer flawed client designs. By identifying and correcting poor draft angles, complex undercuts, and wall-thickness issues before mold fabrication, I have saved clients thousands of dollars in costly steel-cutting revisions and delayed time-to-market.
End-to-End Tooling Leadership (Euro-CB Phil Inc.): Directed daily mold shop operations and spearheaded the design of high-precision injection molds. By integrating Moldex3D flow analysis early in the design phase, I successfully optimized gating and cooling channels, significantly reducing cycle times and eliminating part defects.
Rapid Prototyping for Electronics Enclosures: Integrated 3D printing into the pre-mold validation process for consumer electronics. I successfully verified precise PCB fitments, ergonomic profiles, and aesthetic designs, ensuring zero surprises during T1 mold trials.
Production Defect Resolution & Tooling Repair: Acted as the lead troubleshooter for complex production issues. Conducted root-cause analyses on defects like warpage and short shots, and executed precision machining and welding strategies to restore mold integrity without requiring entirely new tooling.
Cross-Functional Shop Floor Leadership: Progressed from a CNC Milling Programmer to Machine Shop Head, and ultimately to Senior Design Engineer. This unique career path allows me to program highly efficient CNC toolpaths (SolidCAM) that maximize tool life, reduce machining time, and ensure perfect surface finishes.

How I Can Help Your Business
Whether you are a hardware startup needing to take a prototype to mass production, or an established company looking to optimize an existing mold that is suffering from production defects, I bring a "production-first" mindset to every project.
I can help you with:
Full Mold Design: Creating shop-ready, highly accurate 3D models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks.
DFM & Design Rescue: Reviewing your current 3D models and fixing them so they can actually be molded efficiently.
Mold Flow Analysis: Running Moldex3D simulations to predict and prevent defects before cutting steel.
Prototyping & Validation: Generating 3D prints to test fit, form, and function.
Manufacturing Support: Assisting with CNC programming, machine setup parameters, and troubleshooting production defects.
Let’s discuss your project. Send me a message with your 3D models, 2D drawings, or manufacturing challenges, and let's engineer a solution that is built for success.
