PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE
To work on CFD and/or FEA projects, python scripting for simulation automatization applications
EDUCATION
• Sep. 2004 – Aug. 2005 - Marie Curie Ph.D. Fellowship, CMT Motores Termicos, Universidad
Politecnica de Valencia
◦ Conducted early pilot injection modeling in a heavy-duty direct injection Diesel engine with
the KIVA-3V ERC CFD code - validated with experimental data
◦ Performed combustion bomb parametric studies with Fluent – validated with experimental
data
• 2001 – 2011 - Ph.D. course work, Mechanical Engineering, Transilvania University of Brasov
◦ In-cylinder air flow steady state calculations with Fluent
◦ dieselFoam parametric studies - added liquid length, vapor penetration calculation - obtained
good agreement with Sandia combustion bomb experimental data
◦ rhoSimpleFoam - performed in-cylinder Diesel engine calculations with OpenFOAM -
obtained very good agreement for swirl number and discharge coefficient with experimental
data, Tippelmann method
• 1999 – 2000 - M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Transilvania University of Brasov
◦ FEA static analysis of a Diesel engine piston with Ansys
• 1994 – 1999 - B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Transilvania University of Brasov, Mechanical
Faculty
EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
• May. 2015 – present - CFD simulation engineer, Schaeffler Romania, Cristian, Brasov
◦ Thermal Management Module (TMM) steady state CFD analyses with OpenFOAM, pressure
loss calculations, postprocessing and plotting the results with Matlab scripts, ParaView
◦ Variable Camshaft Phaser (VCP) new locking pin oil path CFD calculations, steady state and
transient
◦ Oil Control Valve (OCV) metering edges and leakage CFD workflow, automatization with
cfMesh, Salome and OpenFOAM by means of python and bash programming
▪ fully automatic workflow, using only open source tools => 0 software costs
▪ for the same topology (number of OCV channels) the geometry of the metering edges
can have any shape, no adjustment needed in the workflow, because the new shapes are
adjusted programatically in Salome, via python
▪ user intervention is limited to providing the geometry for Salome, in STEP file format and
redefine some surface groups in Salome
▪ all calculations in the workflow can be started with a master script which runs everything
▪ usage of cfMesh in the workflow permits more control over mesh quality
▪ number of elements in the refinement regions are automatically adjusted by the scripts,
as a function of gap opening (measured automatically in Salome)
◦ Steady-state thermal simulations of electrolyzers (Ansys Fluent)
◦ PyFluent used to automate tasks for multi-cell CFD modeling
◦ CHT simulation in OpenFOAM – cooling circuit of an electric motor
◦ Porous Transport Layer simulation for electrolyzers with GeoDict (automate simulations with
python scripts, no need to open the GUI of Geodict, python automate postprocessing) and
OpenPNM (defined and used totally open source workflow from importing CT scans of PTL to
simulation in OpenPNM – permeability, viscous and inertial resistances, to provide porous
media parameters for CFD simulations
◦ Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) simulation of bearings – Dive CAE, python scripting
◦ CFD of a bipolar plate for a fuel cell – steady-state calculation of pressure drop with
OpenFOAM
▪ shortened the geometry by including porous resistance Darcy – Forchheimer coefficients
- reason, to reduce mesh size, calculation time. Even so, the mesh size was about 60
million elements
• Feb. 2006 – april 2015 - Design Engineer/FEA Analyst, SC Geometric SRL, Brasov
◦ Designed and modeled castings and sheetmetal parts/assemblies with Pro/ENGINEER for
Caterpillar
◦ Pro/MECHANICA design validations
◦ Deployed Pro/Mechanica FEA work procedure and training
◦ Established procedures on using Salome and Code-Aster for static, linear and nonlinear,
contact, plasticity and modal analyses
• Apr. 2002 – Aug. 2004 - Design Engineer, Design Construct s.a., Brasov
◦ Designed and calculated high capacity boiler with Fluent
• Nov. 1999 – Mar. 2002 - Development Engineer, SC INAR SA, Brasov (Automobile Research
Institute) - Diesel Engine Research and Development Division
