About
Hi, I'm Mitchell Wangsgard - a Mechanical Engineer and CAD specialist with hands-on experience in product design, prototyping, and manufacturing support.
I hold a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University (FE-certified, CSWA-certified) and spent nearly a decade at Thermo Fisher Scientific, where I translated customer needs into manufacturable designs, created detailed CAD models and drawings, and supported both R&D and manufacturing engineering. I'm highly proficient in SolidWorks and have a strong background in mechanical assembly, prototyping, and component testing.
I'm now offering part-time, remote CAD and engineering services with a focus on clear communication, clean design, and real-world practicality. Whether you need a concept modeled, a product refined, or a drawing set for production, I can help bring your idea to life.

During my time at Thermo Fisher Scientific I worked in cross functional teams to translate customer wants into new product designs through an iterative process. I produced CAD models, drawings and release specifications for both internal and external manufacturing or fabrication. I was involved in the mechanical assembly, plumbing, and wiring of automated production equipment. I also played a large role in the installation and subsequent qualification and testing of equipment.
Education
-
Utah State University
Bachelors of Science, Mechanical Engineering, 3.7 Cumulative GPA
2014 – 2021
I had to pass the FE exam in order to graduate, that I did in the fall of 2020. I got my Certified SolidWorks Associate certification in the fall of 2017. Utah State University is also one of few accredited universities that requires a technical communications course. During my entire time at college I was also working full time, usually took a full time class schedule, and was raising a family.
