Having graduated from university with a product design qualification I established myself as a freelance designer helping companies and individuals develop their products and ideas into 3D and creating parts ready for manufacture or prototype. Two years ago I co-foundered a technical design agency offering creative and technical support. We've worked with some big names such as Samsung, Lotus, Dyson, Courvoisier, Pelican, and Softbox to help develop point of sale stands, and product ranges. I have designed various machinery including road tankers, generating sets, pumps, compressors, hydraulic mechanical handling equipment, lifting gear and even a battery powered mobile hoist for Torness Nuclear power station. I have received industrial training in the UK from National Grid, the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) and the National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC). I am an expert with Inventor, and in recent years have also become competent with Fusion 360 and Solidworks. CAD software is so good nowadays, that it is quite easy to model something. Where I have proven to be outstanding is with my application of mechanical design analysis and enough experience to know how to apply theoretical methods to reality and what works. Where necessary I can present comprehensive design substantiation e.g. to meet design standards such as BS / ISO or machinery directive and obtain CE / UKCA marking. I am expert with MathCAD and Excel for producing and presenting calculations that have held up to scrutiny. Where appropriate I will produce FEA with Inventor and ANSYS for stress analysis of more complex geometry and loading situations. During my Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering (later incorporated to MSc), I studied the numerical methods involved in FEA, and this combined with experience in aftermarket looking at part failure with Howden Process Compressors, now informs how I use these tools and allows me to use FEA effectively and realistically. I have solid understanding of key manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, and fitting, having always worked closely with the shop floor, soaking up knowledge and enjoying the camaraderie. I am interested in innovative technology and in recent years I have produced successful designs for mechanical components made by 3d printing of plastic. I have extensive knowledge of industrial components and suppliers and have often saved the time and expense of design and manufacture by knowing of an appropriate off-the-shelf part. Having completed three years at university and a 15 month industry placement, I have developed strong CAD skills, specifically using SolidWorks. During my degree I modelled multiple parts which include: an aerospace landing mechanism, a turboprop propeller with gears and casing, and a Cessna 172 wing with various wing tip designs. Whilst on my 15 month industry placement, working for a precision engineering company, I would use SolidWorks on a daily basis in order to create a 3D model from an engineering drawing. Modifications would often be needed to the model in order for the part to be machinable on the CNC machines.

Hi, I am a freelance 3D Visualiser and qualified Architectural Technician based in Leeds (UK) skilled in 3DS Max/V-ray & AutoCAD. I work in close liaison with architects, developers, marketing agencies and design consultants to produce architectural CGI which is used primarily to communicate design concepts to clients. Working on projects throughout the UK, I provide still imagery, VR and animations to facilitate the marketing and planning requirements of projects, as well as being used as a means of securing project funding and sponsorship. I have over 35 years experience working in a design environment, working with AutoCAD since 1989 & in the mid 1990's I worked as a beta tester for Autodesk and in 1998 had 3D work published in CADdesk magazine.
