About the job
I am looking for an experienced jewelry CAD designer / 3D modeler to help create a manufacturable prototype for a custom stainless steel dreadlock/loc ring.
This is a **one-time prototype project to start**, but there may be long-term work available if the first prototype is successful. If the quality, communication, and manufacturability are strong, I may need additional designs made afterward.
This is not a finger ring. It is a hollow cylindrical cuff designed to slide onto locs/dreads. The inside must be smooth and hair-safe with no sharp edges. The outside will have detailed sculpted artwork, raised metal details, wide engraved metal bands on the top and bottom, and recessed areas for possible enamel/color fill.
I have concept images and visual references to help explain the job, but I do **not** want to post those images publicly. If you are interested and have relevant experience, I can send the reference photos privately after we discuss the project. The photos are **not exactly what I want the final product to look like**. They are only meant to show the general direction, shape, style, and level of detail I am interested in.
I would like to discuss the design before the actual CAD modeling begins so we can refine the concept together and make sure it is realistic for manufacturing.
Project goals:
* Create 1 custom loc/dreadlock ring prototype
* Help refine the design before modeling
* Make the model suitable for stainless steel production

I would like to discuss the design before the actual CAD modeling begins so we can refine the concept together and make sure it is realistic for manufacturing.
Project goals:
* Create 1 custom loc/dreadlock ring prototype
* Help refine the design before modeling
* Make the model suitable for stainless steel production
* Include a smooth hollow interior
* Add detailed sculpted exterior artwork
* Include wide engraved top and bottom metal bands
* Create raised metal outlines and recessed color/enamel areas
* Provide high-quality renders
* Provide STL and STEP files
* Create size versions for different inner diameters, likely 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm
The final model should be durable, wearable, and realistic for manufacturing. This should not be just a visual 3D art model. I need someone who understands jewelry CAD, metal production, wall thickness, smooth edges, and manufacturable design.
Timeline:
I would like to begin with a discussion/design refinement stage first, then move into the CAD model once the design direction is clear. Ideally, I would like the first prototype completed within 1–3 weeks, depending on the designer’s schedule and revision process.
Budget:
My budget for the first prototype is approximately $150–$500 depending on experience, quality of work, included file types, and number of revisions. I am open to discussing pricing if you have strong jewelry CAD experience and can provide production-ready files.
Please include:
* Examples of previous jewelry CAD, ring, charm, pendant, or small metal accessory work
* Any relevant stainless steel, enamel, casting, or manufacturable product design experience
* Your estimated timeline
* Your price for one prototype
* How many revisions are included
* Whether you can provide STL and STEP files
* Whether you are comfortable discussing and refining the design before starting the final model
If your work looks like a good fit, I will send the private reference photos directly.
