About the job
Summary:
We’re seeking a fluid dynamics engineer to support a two-phase project involving airflow behavior around a rotating structure. The scope includes CFD modeling and a follow-up physical prototype test based on the model. The fluid involved is air, and performance must be analyzed under dynamic motion.
This is a budget-limited project, structured as hourly work with fixed time parameters for each phase. You must be able to estimate hours required in advance and stick to a fixed, non-variable hourly rate.
Note: Candidates must be based in the United States. In-person travel to your prototype test location will be required for review, so remote international applicants will not be considered.

Required Skills:
• Proficiency with CFD tools (e.g., SimScale, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+)
• Strong understanding of rotating fluid systems and airflow dynamics
• Solid CAD experience (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, etc.)
• Capability to independently fabricate a simple prototype and conduct early-stage performance testing
• Familiarity with TRL 3–4 development stages
• Able to collect and interpret real-world data (temperature, velocity, pressure)
• Willingness to sign NDA and assign related IP
________________________________________
Scope of Work:
Phase 1 – CFD Simulation (TRL 3)
• Create or refine a rotating system geometry for simulation
• Run CFD across defined rotational speeds and inlet conditions
• Output required: a...

Scope of Work:
Phase 1 – CFD Simulation (TRL 3)
• Create or refine a rotating system geometry for simulation
• Run CFD across defined rotational speeds and inlet conditions
• Output required: airflow velocity vectors, pressure gradients, and thermal impact on specific surfaces
Estimated time: 10–20 hours at a fixed hourly rate (to be agreed upon upfront)
________________________________________
Phase 2 – Prototype Fabrication + Testing (TRL 4)
• Independently fabricate or adapt a basic functional prototype based on the modeled geometry
• Set up and execute a test (bench, fan rig, or vehicle-based) to capture real-world performance
• Collect airflow or thermal data and deliver summary documentation with findings
Scope and hours for Phase 2 to be quoted after Phase 1 is completed
________________________________________
Engagement Terms:
• Short-term contract (duration TBD)
• Remote-friendly within the United States
• Hourly rate, non-fluctuating, with predefined limits for each phase
________________________________________
To Apply:
Please include:
• Short summary of CFD + fluid dynamics experience
• Any relevant examples of airflow simulation work involving rotation or thermally sensitive systems
• Description of previous prototyping or early-stage testing involvement
• Your preferred non-fluctuating hourly rate
• Your earliest availability
• Confirmation that you are U.S.-based and able to host an in-person prototype review
• Confirmation that you're open to signing an NDA and assigning IP if selected
