I have an existing CAD design for a smart floor drain system and I am looking for an experienced mechanical/product development engineer to perform an independent engineering review before prototype manufacturing and tooling.
The current design includes:
• Stainless-steel drain cover
• Removable hair strainer
• Replaceable activated-carbon odor-control cartridge
• Silicone one-way valve
• Injection-molded PP housing
I need a critical engineering review of the existing design, not a new cosmetic design.
The review should focus on:
• Water-flow path and potential flow restrictions
• Silicone one-way valve design, opening pressure and reliable closing
• Odor and reverse-airflow prevention
• Hair collection and potential clogging
• Activated-carbon cartridge effectiveness and whether it adds real functional value
• Injection molding / DFM
• Tolerances, assembly and serviceability
• Potential failure modes
• Recommendations for design improvements
• Prototype testing plan with measurable acceptance criteria
Experience with fluid flow, silicone/elastomer valves, injection-molded products, DFM and physical prototype testing is strongly preferred.
The first phase is an independent design review only. If the review is successful, there may be a second phase for design optimization and prototype development.`
