About the job
I need two 1911 handguard/grip panels — one left side and one right side — rebuilt as clean CAD models for CNC machining from wood.
I already have STL files of both parts that can be used as a visual and dimensional reference.
IMPORTANT: I do NOT want the STL files simply converted into STEP files. I have already tried this, and the result contains thousands of triangular faces that are difficult or impossible to use properly for CAM and CNC toolpaths.
I need an experienced CAD designer to rebuild the geometry as true solid CAD models using the STL files as reference.
The finished models should have:
Clean, smooth CAD surfaces
Proper solid geometry
A low/reasonable number of true CAD faces
No thousands of triangular mesh faces
Accurate mounting holes and overall dimensions
Smooth curved and contoured surfaces matching the original STL as closely as practical
Geometry suitable for CAM and desktop CNC machining from wood
Deliverables
2 completed parts total:
Left 1911 handguard/grip panel
Right 1911 handguard/grip panel
Please provide:
STEP file for each side
Native editable CAD file if possible
SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Inventor or similar professional CAD software is preferred
Before completion, I would like screenshots showing the finished CAD models with the surface/edge geometry visible so I can verify they are clean CAD models rather than converted triangle meshes.
This is a one-time project.
Starting Budget: $100

I am open to reasonable offers from experienced CAD designers. Please include examples of previous reverse engineering, mesh-to-CAD reconstruction, CNC, or manufacturing CAD work if available.
The main goal is simple: recreate these two parts as clean, CNC-ready CAD models rather than converting the existing STL mesh.
