Overview
To maintain a secure and reliable marketplace, Cad Crowd implements a one-time payment verification for new contracts. This process ensures that payment methods are valid and active, protecting our design community and preventing service interruptions for your projects.

How it works
The verification is triggered automatically based on the progress of your project:
- The threshold: Once your designer logs $100 in billed hours, our system initiates a one-time $100 verification charge to your primary payment method (Credit Card or PayPal).
- The credit: This is not an extra fee. The $100 is immediately applied as a pre-paid credit to your Cad Crowd account balance.
- The invoice adjustment: When your first weekly invoice is generated, the $100 credit is automatically applied. For example, if your total bill for the week is $350, you will only be charged $250, as the $100 verification credit covers the rest.
Why we do this
- Designer protection: This confirms to the expert that they are working on a verified contract with a functional payment method.
- Fraud prevention: It helps us verify the account holder’s identity and intent, keeping the platform safe for everyone.
- Continuous progress: By verifying early, we prevent projects from being paused late in the week due to an expired or blocked card.
Common questions
Is this a recurring charge?
No. This is a one-time verification per payment method. Once a specific card or PayPal account has been successfully verified, future billing will follow the standard weekly cycle without this initial charge.
What happens if the verification fails?
If the $100 charge is unsuccessful (e.g., due to insufficient funds or a bank block), your contract will be automatically paused. This is a protective measure to ensure no unbillable work is performed. You can resume the project at any time by updating your payment method in your Payments & payouts.
Can I see this credit on my dashboard?
Yes. You will see a “Balance adjustment” of -$100.00 and a corresponding payment on your transaction history as soon as the threshold is met.
