Contest Ended, Winner(s) have been selected.
Description:
I need help designing a stationary desktop robot that fires foam missiles and I'm looking for an interesting concept design. This robot would sit on someone's desk, connected to a computer, and would have the ability to fire foam missiles, motion track, and talk. It would:
* Plug into a computer with USB
* Be a stationary robot with no legs, it would sit on some sort of platform and needs to stay balance as it rotates
* Have a motion sensor
* Have a small built-in camera
* Have LED eyes and maybe mouth
* Have an internal speaker for talking and making sounds
* Rotate left and right on its platform
* Have foam missiles either on its arms or on a separate missile launching arm. The arm they are firing from should be able to rotate up and down for targeting.
It should be between 13 and 17 cm tall and at least 10 cm across (roughly).
Wants:
I'm really looking for some creativity here. This concept is basically a cross between two existing types of products: (1) USB Missile Launchers and (2) "Desk Defenders."
* A USB missile launcher can be controlled from your computer and shoots foam darts
* A desk defender sits on your desk and "wakes up" when someone walks by. Then it will threaten them verbally (i.e. "You will be exterminated," or something similar.
I've attached some photos for you to get an idea of what I'm looking for, including some simple hand sketches I made (I'm not an artist).
I'm looking for a design that makes the robot look somewhat menacing, but also a bit funny/humorous.

#2 The Desktop Defender
by Luka B.
Hello!
As promised I posted (few hours late) my entry for the desktop defender contest.
- This design is meant to be used for presentation. The arms and body are rotationable but it has some limits. It is hard to achieve to hold the position without any other mechanisms, so I did that by using the elasticity of the material. In reality you will probably use servo motors and the design would then be different (atleast the connection).
Also the arms can come off if you pull them apart, they should hold the position but they won't handle any side forces forcing them apart of the body.
The design is solid, I can fix that if required because it will probably take longer to print but it will be more stiff which is for presentation probably better,
The width is 112mm, and the height is 170mm.
I would appreciate some feedback, so I can see if I am on track with my design.
Also any changes can be done if wanted - this is just my try to visualize something you have imagined.
Regards,
mcluka

HI! Billy ,
First of all thanks for launching this interesting contest I really enjoyed working on this. I have attached my robo here. With all the file formats that are required to you. Have a look at it from all the angle , it looks total fighting machine to me ,if you wish to rotate base then it would be more fun. From front this looks like tortoise robo fighting. Let me know if you want any changes
Have A great day

Neutronix, I look forward to see what you come up with.
Thank you for your design, Aher C P.
Hi Billy, I have sent just concept model, if anything more let me know
This is very interesting project. I will be help you & send 3d model as early as per your requirement.
I think I am in as wel.
This is an intresting project.
This is an intresting project.
Thank you mcluka. I look forward to seeing your design.
Great, now I fully understand your requirements. I will post my entry on friday evening due to other work. Regards
Thanks for your comment mcluka. I will try to be more clear about what I am looking for.
At present, I do not need a fully working prototype, because I do not have the internal launching mechanism or electrical components.
What I do need is something that can be 3D printed and looks like it would work if you are just looking at it or taking a picture of it. I need this so I can try and get some interest in the project, before moving forward and actually developing it.
The functionality I need for this design is:
* It can rotate and stay in position if you move it by hand
* Foam missiles can be mounted on it and removed (But not actually fire). The missiles would rest on small "poles" like the ones in this picture.

* It should look like it has a motion sensor and camera (Represented by small indentations or bumps in the design).
* It should have small indentations for a speaker somewhere hidden
* It should have a place to attach some USB cord to the robot (non-working)
* I would also like a design the shape of the foam missiles. They could be around 6cm long. Examples:

(2) http://www.redferret.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/usbrovingmissilelauncher.jpg
(3) http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTAwWDUwMA==/$T2eC16h,!)8E9s4l90QlBQ+dtWNkuw~~60_35.JPG
The overall style that I want is for it to look like a futuristic military defense machine (but with an interesting personality), and with dark colors .
Basically I'm hoping you can make a good guess about how much space all the internal parts will take up, based on what is currently existing in the market. But it is not critical. The design can be modified later if the project moves forward.

Hello,
I am interested in to this task, but I need to know if you only want a design with a render, or does it have to be modeled in "product ready to be printed/made" way, so to have the right wall thickness, to have the correct spaces for inner electronics etc?

Garbage Disposal
Need to design under the sink garbage disposal unit. There are lot of garbage disposals made with a purpose of kitchen waste disposal. The envelope size will be around 6 inches in diameter and about 8-10 inches long. The unit will utilize 1/3 or 1/2 HP motor.
iPad Accessory
To create a sun visor that would fit an iPad Air 2 and the newest Pro 9.7" model. It would need to attach to the magnetic system (so that it would not fall off during windy days). And be very aesthetically pleasing. All buttons and camera should be able to be accesses when the visor is mounted.
Keyshot Product Rendering
Render photo-realistic multiple view of products for use in visualization, web/print etc.
8 product models, 3D STP files already available
Requiring only application of surface finish and lighting options.
Air Freshener Plastic Bottle Design
We are seeking a CAP and bottle design for an AIR FRESHENER product for females. We are seeking a cute unique bottle design in which we can use to make our own custom mold. Attached is additional information of the direction.
The ROBERT project
We would like a fresh set of eyes on our device ROBERT, a rehabilitation robot that release healthcare workers of heavy and continuous lifting which can cause physical strain and pain in the back, loin, wrists and shoulders. We aim to optimise rehabilitation through more frequently and prolonged exercises which can result in fewer complications and a faster retrieval of a patient’s strength. See more at www.myrobert.com.
The current look is a mixture of many components comming together which does not result in a uniform design. Further we whish to incorporate a new robot arm, made by the company KUKA, the LBR iiwa version, https://www.kuka.com/en-de/products/robot-systems/industrial-robots/lbr-iiwa. This will later come in a MEDtech version, similar in use but in white and with a small change to the interface base. CAD data of the industrial version can be used for this design, change is that wiring will come out of the bottom of the medtech version and not the sides like the industrial version, so completely round in base instead of the small square thing on the side of the industrial version (so no visible wires). The industrial version can be downloaded here: https://www.kuka.com/en-de/services/downloads. It is the "LBR iiwa 14 R820" found under division "KUKA Robotics".
