Description:
The challenge is to make a water bottle cap that will fit most water bottles in the USA. This bottle cap must also be able to hold 15-20ml of a thicker liquid. A mechanism in the bottle cap allows said viscous liquid to be dispensed into the water below. The liquid chamber must be sealed until the user decides to dispense. If you'd like a shot at the top prize, please use first prinicples and be innovative.
Yes, there are 2 such caps in China that do this (they don't fit USA water bottles). They are outdated in design and bulky so instead of iterating on existing designs, let's start from the fundamentals. Feel free to observe but not be inspired; we're aiming for something completely new here.
Please prioritize and optimize:
-Sealing
-Bottle compatibility
-User experience/ease of use
-Premium Aesthetics
It might be worth referencing Hy-Conn, an a sharktank product that allows firefighters to connect hoses to fire hydrants instantly instead of the usual 20-30 second delay due to threading.
Its a relatively simple project (besides the threading), and I do want it to be a bit of a challenge, so 3 days it is!
Don't hesitate to ask any further questions and good luck!
Wants:
Secure, leak-proof fit (cap must screw on smoothly with consistent torque and no wobble).Innovative mechanism that allows easy operation (one handed if possible).
Don't Wants:
-Inspired by Chinese design-Bulky
-Overly Complex
-Designs that compromise on reliable sealing or clean dispensing
Ask for Sample:
Please submit a high-level concept design first (simple 3D model or render showing overall cap shape, thread interface on a standard USA water bottle neck, basic dispensing feature, and key dimensions).
This is a focused first-principles design project, so prioritize creative yet practical solutions for sealing, clean dispensing, ergonomics.
Additional Information
The bottle cap may be sports/squirt type bottle cap or the traditional twist open/close. Totally up to you. Again, we're aiming for ingenuity here. It's also important to note that these caps will be disposable and not reusable so any high cost materials are discouraged ie stainless steel etc.
AI files without CAD to show the working mechanism will not be eligible!

Discussion
Would you mind providing the file or images of the previous bottle cap design? This will help me understand the exact upgrades you are looking for.
I will be uploading photos or videos of the current version on the market for material reference since I see that many of you went with high cost materials. These will eventually be mass produced so please keep cost in mind.
vsnmechdesign/justinralphd- Its meant to be filled one time by the company selling it, and then single use after that. No requirement or restriction on whether it can be refilled by user. Please design around the older, 1810 bottle cap.

Richard_Joe Whether you make the cap removable to drink or a squirt/sports type cap is up to you. The Chinese version uses a twist to dispense, and then the user twists off the whole contraption in order to drink. If you can make it dispense and drinkable without removing the cap with some sort of squirt design, more power to you.
Hi,
Quick functional clarification before I begin the concept phase:
Should the cap function solely as a dispensing mechanism for the viscous liquid, meaning the user would remove the entire cap to drink from the bottle?
Or, do you envision it as a dual-function cap, one that can both dispense the viscous liquid and allow drinking directly through the cap without removing it?

Hi Lucian,
I second @vsnmechdesign's comment. If you provide few more details and also the type of viscous liquid you're aiming for.
Thanks.

Hello everyone,
Please include CAD files, not just AI-generated images, as those would be mostly useless to the client.
Thanks,
Lucian

Should the 15–20 ml chamber be replaceable/refillable, or should it be a single-use sealed cartridge?
When you say the cap should fit "most USA water bottles," which bottle neck finish should I design around?
For example:
• 28 mm PCO 1881
• 28 mm PCO 1810
• Another standard?
If there isn't a specific standard, should I simply target the most common PET water bottle thread used in the USA?
I want to make sure the threading, sealing, and compatibility are designed correctly from the start.

Photorealistic Cutaway Render of Center-Weighted Shaker Whisk
Project Overview
I need a high-quality, photorealistic 3D render of a unique center-weighted shaker whisk called the Barbell Blender™.
This is a weighted whisk used inside a premium protein shaker bottle. The product already exists, and I attached a .STP file and a quick video of the outside. This contest is not for redesigning the product. The goal is to create a polished, premium product render that clearly shows the internal stainless-steel weighted core.
The final render will be used in Amazon listing images, product graphics, website visuals, and marketing materials.
The most important deliverable is a clean, realistic cutaway render of the center housing showing the stainless-steel core inside.
⸻
Main Goal
Create a premium render that communicates:
WEIGHTED CORE. COMPACT SIZE.
STAINLESS-STEEL CORE
The viewer should instantly understand that the whisk has a weighted stainless-steel core inside the center section, while the overall whisk remains compact and normal-looking.
The render should feel like high-end studio product photography or premium engineering visualization, not a raw CAD screenshot.
⸻
Files Provided
I will provide:
* STEP file of the Barbell Blender™ weighted whisk
* Current rough render / mockup reference
* Bottle render for scale/context only
* Product/material notes
* Any additional references needed during the contest
The bottle is not the focus of this contest. Please focus on the whisk only.
⸻
Required Deliverables
1. Hero Render of Full Whisk
Create a clean, premium render of the full Barbell Blender™ weighted whisk.
Requirements:
* Full whisk visible
* Wire coils intact
* Center weighted housing clearly visible
* Realistic stainless-steel wire material
* Realistic HDPE outer shell material
* Premium studio lighting
* White or transparent background
* Suitable for Amazon product images
⸻
2. Cutaway Render Showing Stainless-Steel Core
This is the most important deliverable.
Create a version of the whisk where the center housing is partially opened to reveal the stainless-steel core inside.
Important Cutaway Direction
Please do not cross-section the entire whisk.
Please do not cut the wire coils.
Please do not make the product look broken.
Only create a clean reveal window in the center housing / barrel of the whisk.
The cutaway should remove about 25–35% of the visible front shell of the center housing. The goal is to show the stainless-steel core inside while keeping the product looking finished, premium, and realistic.
The wire coils should remain intact and can naturally pass in front of the cutaway. That is okay, as long as the stainless-steel core remains clearly visible.
The cutaway should look like a premium engineering/product visualization, not like a damaged product.
⸻
3. Two-Whisk Render
Create a render showing two Barbell Blenders™ together.
This will be used to show that the 2-pack product includes two weighted whisks.
Requirements:
* Two whisks visible
* Slightly different angles
* Realistic shadows
* Realistic metal reflections
* Not floating
* Clean white or transparent background
* Suitable for Amazon main image use
⸻
Material Requirements
Wire Coils
Material: Stainless steel wire
The wire should look realistic and premium.
Please show:
* Metallic reflections
* Round wire shape
* Smooth highlights
* Depth between coils
* No flat gray CAD material
* No jagged or rough edges
⸻
Internal Weighted Core
Material: Stainless steel
The internal core should look solid, heavy, and metallic.
Please show:
* Brushed or satin stainless-steel finish
* Realistic silver metal color
* Solid weighted appearance
* Subtle highlights and shadows
* No artificial color
Please avoid:
* blue core
* pink core
* rainbow core
* glowing core
* sci-fi x-ray look
* transparent neon effect
The core should look like a real stainless-steel insert inside the center housing.
⸻
Outer Center Housing / Shell
Material: HDPE
Finish: somewhat glossy molded plastic
The shell should look like real molded HDPE plastic. It should not be mirror-gloss, but it should have a soft gloss/sheen with realistic highlights.
Please show:
* Slight gloss, not mirror finish
* Real molded plastic look
* Clean bevels and edges
* Subtle surface realism
* Correct wall thickness in the cutaway
* Soft highlights
* Premium product quality
Please avoid:
* flat matte CAD look
* toy-like plastic
* mirror-gloss plastic
* rubber-like material
* glass-like material
⸻
Cutaway Detail Requirements
For the cutaway/core reveal, please show:
* Realistic outer shell thickness
* Clean beveled cut edges
* Subtle internal shadows
* Stainless-steel core recessed inside the housing
* Realistic material boundaries between shell and core
* The product still looking whole and premium
The cutaway should look intentional, like a clean product visualization.
It should not look like the whisk has been broken, sliced in half, or damaged.
⸻
Composition Direction
The render should be large, clear, and easy to use in Amazon listing images.
Preferred look:
* Large whisk centered
* Clean white or transparent background
* Room above for headline text if needed
* Room on the side for a small callout label
* Product well-lit and premium
* No clutter
* No lifestyle background
The cutaway version should make the stainless-steel core obvious without overcomplicating the render.
⸻
Visual Style
The final render should feel:
* premium
* clean
* modern
* realistic
* engineered
* Amazon-ready
* high-quality
Think:
premium product photography + clean engineering visualization
Not:
raw CAD screenshot
⸻
Lighting Direction
Please use clean studio product lighting.
Suggested lighting:
* Soft key light from upper front-left
* Soft fill light from front-right
* Subtle rim light if needed
* Realistic reflections on metal wires
* Soft shadows under product
* Clean white or transparent background
The lighting should make the stainless steel and HDPE materials look realistic and premium.
