Description:
Almost without exception, swivel castors found on all makes of luggage today are made from plastic, do not last more than a couple years (of frequent use), do not roll very smoothly, often 'pull' to one side, are prone to breaking off, are ugly, and most look very similar. Therefore, I am seeking a design for a dual wheel 360 degree swivel castor that is entirely made from aluminum or some other strong but lightweight metal (with the exception of the rubber tread on the wheels) with the following features:
1) Ball bearings on wheel axles, both sides
2) Ball bearings on swivel mechanism
3) Wheel diameter not more than 2" (50mm)
4) Very low-profile so that valuable space is not taken up.
5) Predominantly to be used on Hand Luggage/Carry On Luggage which doesn't need to be wheeled thru the airport as much
6) Overall dimension extending from bottom of bag to be as close to 2"/50mm as possible, perhaps 2.5" is achievable through good design.
7) Easily repairable and reasonably easy to remove from the luggage for replacement, etc.
8) Suspension mechanism so that bumps are rolled over smoothly (1/2"/12mm of suspension)
9) Castors to be virtually indestructible by normal use
10) Have a sleek modern look but also an unmistakably sturdy look (aka not cheap looking)
11) Caster to 'Track straight' when rolling mechanism, perhaps accomplished by magnet in the swivel housing.
Wants:
I shall expect a very detailed design with dimensions and well thought through design.
Don't Wants:
The design cannot contain any plastic parts. Use of rubber or a rubber compound for the tread on wheels is acceptable

a few questions:
a. I understand that you are asking for four caster wheels, one in each corner of the luggage. Caster wheels have two wheels each. Confirm or correct
b. Why are you asking for bearings in the wheels? And in the swivel? In both places plastic plain bearings are a robust and nice option
c. Each caster wheel could support up to 50 lb, making a total of 200 lb per suitcase. confirm or correct
d- please describe the mounting design. Is it a plate, a plug in pin, etc?

The contest is prepaid and blind.
Load = 50 lbs
2 wheels in each caster, 1 caster on each corner.
Thanks all

By dual wheel do you mean 4 wheels on four corners or two wheels on either side or do you right now just wwant to see one design mechanism and then you can decide later if your luggage needs two or four?

Solar container
20 feet Shipping container needed to used for a mobile Solar power station a total of 36 panels needed to be mounted in top and side of the container. The unfolding of these panels at site should be motorized by hydroluyic system. The Tilting angels should be adjustable. The set up of the system should not exceed half an hour.
Donkey Calf Raise attachment Quick Connect
This contest is to design a fast way to connect and disconnect the Donkey Calf Raise attachment to various size smith machine barbell shafts. The Donkey Calf Raise attachment is a patented apparatus that can be attached to the smith machine barbell to perform the donkey calf raise exercise. The current design will not attach to all smith machine barbell shafts. I need a new quick way for the apparatus to attach to a 25mm to 35mm diameter smith machine barbell shaft. Please see attached 3D STEP file, Inventor assembly & part files and AutoCAD 3D file. Attached also are images on how to perform the donkey calf raise exercise.
Roller Mop
This is for a new mop invention. I was able to make a somewhat functioning scaled model of just the internal mechanisms as seen in the attached video. Taking from the carpet sweeper seen here: http://bit.ly/32vqkGF, I want it to have 3 sponge rollers that spin in alternate directions at an accelerated speed (3:1) so that when it is pushed across the floor, the sponge rollers spin to mop up a mess. I used gear pullies to spin the rollers, however, I am open to any kind of gears based on your expertise for efficiency, durability, efficacy, and cost of goods. This will be a retail product and I would like to keep the price competitive with sweepers. Please provide the following: - Completed product with retail-ready design - Full size (similar to the carpet sweeper) - Rollers should have push pin or equivalent to easily pop rollers in and out (they will be replenishments with a variety of roller options (i.e. brillow, sponge, brush, shammy, etc.) - It should break down to fit into a retail box, again similar to the carpet sweeper link provided. - Rollers are 1" diameter - Wheels are 2"
Hook Design for SNUZR: The World's First Toilet Stall Hammock
Looking for an engineer who can design a wall grappling hook that can suspend a hanging chair hammock between two partition walls in a toilet stall. The chair hammock has 4 straps which are attached to 4 identical wall hooks affixed at the top of the toilet stall partition. The hook must be able to hold securely in place as load weight is gradually applied. The typical user will install the hammock as follows: attach hooks on the side partition walls of the toilet stall - towards the front and back of stall and on both sides, attach hammock straps onto the hook, sits down on the hammock and if necessary get back up to adjust straps to ideal chair height and position. Previous designs of the hook did not stay in place and slid towards the centre of the wall due to side torque as weight was applied via the straps at roughly 45 degree angles (which also damaged or marked up the walls). We need a rockstar engineer who can solve this design challenge with a sense of humour.
4 DoF mechanical arm mounted on a tripod
We want to design an arm which can be mounted on a tripod as shown in the attached image. The total length of the arm is going to be 1.5m from pivot to end effector. For the movement of the joints please refer the other image. The total weight of the arm and the mechanism has to be less than 3kg. The payload is going to be less than 300 grams. Your job is to design the underlying mechanism which can drive this arm as smoothly as possible. The deliverables are going to be CAD of the mechanism and BOM and anything else which will be required to prototype the arm. The project will only begin with this contest and the designer will be hired for continuation of the project.
