Description:
Hi Cad Crowd! We're in need of adjusting one of the components of our product. We have an existing 3D model that we need adjusted. We are keeping the same top and bottom connection the same. The basic design is similar to a standard universal phone mount for a car. We want to use the same mechanism as shown in the pictures and then adjust it to our requirements.
The system will be 3 major components.
Part 1: Back piece that has top connection and bottom connection which won't be changed much except for the width. This area will be where the gears/spring/everything sits on.
Part 2: This will be the two "wing walls" that extrude left and right that will be sat on the back plate area.
Part 3: Will enclose this area and have a bottom stub where the phones sit.
We play on adding some little foam on the front of part 3 and on the insides of the wing walls.
We think that the gear mechanism can be reduced in size and that we can flip it so that they sit above the wing walls (and in the center of the system).
Wants:
We need a working model that we can possibly 3D print. The more detail the better. I have rough dimensions attached and a file so you can adjust that and meet the requirements
Don't Wants:
Very basic designs, too conceptual, need something that will actually work.
Software:
- SolidWorks
- Other 3D modeling programs for 3d printing

Good in your head is one thing. Getting your hands on many of these products and testing them is completely different. I know i wouldn't want my $500+ dollar phone in most of these holders. Hold your phone with fingers where your contact points are and then move the contact points further up and shake your hands, tell me the higher up grip isn't more stable.
Thanks Adam. Let`s meet all again in the rail contest. :))
LOL RBL, we trust you ! Nice work from you and everyone in this contest.
Good Luck !

Heeey, open topic, love it. Guys you must admit that my design is the best. :))) we are out of contest so i can share things. Is no gear mechanism exept the lock teeth, but that not transfer any movement, half of the sliding wing stay inside when its fully open, the unlock button is down so is accsessible even when is a fat phone in the holder, the angle between the sliding part of the wing and the gripping part is not 90 degree but less with 3 degree on each side so the phone is not holded actually by the gripping force of the rubber or foam but more by the closing geometry of the wings. Trust me, I`m an engineer. :))))
Hi ODB.
Actually, he will add foam to the phone mount, almost all design will have a good grip. The most important thing in this design is the wing walls stability when they are fully opened. if they are not stable, you will have a larger chance of damaging the inner components while closing the wing walls. i see a lot of designs here don't respect that.

Hi ODB. 12 mm of side and bottom grip should be enough for any phone available on the market. ex. iphone 7mm, note7 8mm. and most of them have rounded sides so the contact surface is on the middle of side at 3.5mm, 4mm from the face. is enough room even if the phone is covered with case.
As a side note before choosing, having worked for several years in a store that sells motoring accessories including a large range of phone holders. All of the designs with the fins right at the bottom will not grip as well as if the fins are higher up. Also the majority of bottom lips for support are way too thin, and fail to leave a gap in the center for if you wanted to plug a charger in at the same time as being on the holder. Just my 2 cents.
I've attached our funnel that we currently use. Please use that for reference.

Yes we need it to fit our existing mount. We don't necessarily need the exact mechanism. We actually would like something much more simple. We are open to ideas as long as it fits all phones and looks good!
Hi preston
What if I fully designed the parts with complete mechanism. do want to look at it?

Hi Preston,
Are the photos just examples of typical phone mounts or do they show a mechanism that you want to use in a new shape of your own?
The line drawings seem to be from different designs. One shows the wider portion at the top, whereas the other shows the wider portion at the bottom. The drawing with wider portion at the top also shows protruding features at top and bottom - what are these?
Could you please clarify, thanks. Neil

So, what exactly needed is a 3d printable working design - for the given purpose. Wait till late evening (IST) and u will have it perfectly as u need.
Yes we are looking for a simple design that works for the intended purposes.
Do you also need the gearing re-designed to make it smaller and simpler?
The project has been prepaid, please let me know if you have any questions!
As soon as you prepay, we'll get to work on that.

Setra Nano Design Options
There is an attached image of a new product concept, which is essentially a wall-mounted sensor that shows a light ring indicator of red or green. The product is designed to cover a single-gang US electrical wall box, similar in size to a wall switch. Once wall-mounted, it stands off the wall about 10 mm, where the light ring can be visible from front or side. We want some industrial design options to look at that are different from our design.
Mosquito Trap Redesign
We want to redesign our UV LED mosquito trap, an outdoor product to be placed in tent, outdoor café, farms to reduce the damage by mosquito. It should be simple, solid, low priced, slim, good quality and fashionable- a mid-way between high-tech and disposable traps. We would like its housing to be partially transparent for the visibility of LED light. Also, we prefer the entry point for mosquito to be a maze design.
Type: Mosquito trap
Target Audience: All age groups
Competitors: enclosed in attachments
Design: Maze entry point, partially transparent body, UV LED light, PCB board, cotton stand to put cotton soaked in mosquito attractant liquid, 2AAA battery case
Material: Plastic
Any software is acceptable if STL format file can be provided
Any further questions, please feel free to comment.
UAV Reaper Drone
Need complete design for Reaper Drone in solid Works for each part of the stucture (Fuselage+ wings+ wheels) no need for engine and inside equipements, and i don't need rocket design and no need also for 2D drafting
Quick/Easy 3D Rendering / Photoshop project for high-end home audio company's new product!
I would like to work with someone who can take my product images (high resolution JPEG images) and add/modify them to reflect a new version of our product. The deliverables will be high resolution JPEGs (modified versions of the ones that I submit for this project).
Our product, "LIO," is a home audio product (see: www.vinnierossi.com). Currently, the aluminum top panel (top cover) is has no holes. We are developing a new vacuum tube preamplifer stage in LIO and there will be two vacuum tubes that plug into two sockets directly below the two holes added on the top panel. I need new renderings that show these tubes:
- Front views
- Angled views
The vacuum tubes need to be show in correct proportion and must look as realistic as possible, even glowing (so it looks like this is still a product photo).
The ideal candidate for this product will be well versed in:
- Photoshop
- Solidworks
- AutoCAD
- Any other software that can get the job done.
I will supply the product photos and examples of what the vacuum tubes look like, and where they are to be located on the top panel.
Once the rendering is completed for the front and angle view, then they can be used for all the different variations of the same product (with different front/side panel, top panel, and knob color).
Thank you,
Vinnie
Biological Cell Cluster
I am looking to obtain a 3D CAD model of a biological cell cluster in order to transfer it to a multiphysics simulation software (COMSOL). The cluster will consist of 120 'cells' in the shape of a hyper-dodecahedron (https://theory.org/geotopo/120-cell/ ). Each side of each dodecahedron must measure ~5um.
