Mold Backing Feature for 1/2 Scale Sailplane Fuselage

The interesting part here is the tooling. It's one feature in OnShape's FeatureScript. It demonstrates how FS can automate extremely complex tasks, such as making an entire composite mold backing structure, in one feature. It also demonstrates how piecewise 3D printing followed by manual assembly can produce full scale parts. I used the technique to produce a 1 meter test piece and pulled some real composite parts from it. The mold needed a different resin infusion design to avoid resin starvation, but the fabrication method worked. Total time from coming off the printer to fabrication - 7 labor hours.
