About

I have 20 years of experience working as both a design and manufacturing engineer. I have extensive experience designing machined parts, creating 3D Solid Models using SolidWorks, and creating production documentation (Engineering Drawings, Bills of Material and Work Instructions). I am familiar with several manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, grinding, mechanical and electrical component assembly.

Experience

  • Manufacturing Engineer Marvin Test Solutions · Jan 2016 – Apr 2019 3 yrs 3 mos Irvine, California, USA Created manufacturing documentation (assembly drawings, bills of material and manufacturing instructions) for PXI Chassis products and instrument cards. Updated drawing requirements significantly increasing the quality and clarity of manufacturing documentation.

Introduced new product designs to manufacturing, worked with vendors and manufacturing staff to resolve all manufacturing issues.

Used SolidWorks CAD software to model electrical components and assemblies to verify fit and eliminate interference issues.

Created component models for semiconductor components to use in Altium PCB design software.

Performed dimensional analyses to determine the root cause of instrument card misalignments. Found and eliminated several design flaws drastically improving the quality of PXI chassis.

Audited electrical harness designs to determine the root cause of crimp terminal inspection failures. Changed wire specifications to ensure compatibility between crimp terminals and wires.
  • Manufacturing Engineer Calnetix · Feb 2013 – Nov 2014 1 yrs 9 mos Cerritos, CA, USA Lead an investigation to determine the root cause of back EMF failures in generators.

Updated test process and equipment significantly decreasing the measurement error.

Created and documented a manufacturing process for the assembly of 125kW turbo generators; wrote work instructions, routers, process maps and inspection sheets.

Designed tooling to build and machine magnetic bearing sensor and actuator rings, measure rotor flux, install Inconel sleeves and press fit components onto permanent magnet rotors.

Trained technicians how to assemble generators, use inspection tools, and operate various types of shop equipment.

Evaluated and purchased equipment and tools to manufacture turbo generators and heat recovery systems.

Measured parts with inspection tools and performed calculations to determine the shims required to set magnetic bearing pole gaps. Verified calculations using SolidWorks software.
  • Manufacturing Engineer FMC Technologies · Jul 2008 – Feb 2013 4 yrs 7 mos Fullerton, CA, USA Optimized magnet bonding process to decrease cycle time and failure rate.

Performed source inspections at vendor sites on critical components and tooling.

Designed tooling and equipment to assemble permanent magnet motors.

Purchased and installed a Cincinnati Grinding machine with a 32in swing at DDS facility. Designed a foundation and coolant filtration system, upgraded motor to 50HP and installed a crane to mount grinding wheels.

Developed grinding process for magnetized permanent magnet rotors.

Designed and built a magnet bonding machine to handle rotors up to 160in in length.

Purchased and installed a balancing machine to balance rotors, developed balancing process, wrote work instructions and trained operators.

Designed and built a machine to test the wear characteristics of carbon fiber in ethylene glycol.
