About
My work moves between two scales that most practices keep apart. At the building
and urban scale I have worked on institutional, residential and landscape schemes
where the design problem is orientation, circulation, zoning and the relationship
between built form and ground. At the interior scale I resolve the same schemes down
to millimetre-accurate joinery, appliance tolerances and installation sequence, on live
sites, with contractors and fabricators.
That range is deliberate. Working through fabrication has taught me what a drawing
has to carry to survive construction, and working at the urban scale keeps the detail
answerable to something larger than itself. The projects that follow are ordered to
show both: five building-scale schemes, then five interiors delivered on site.
My continuing interest is in buildings that carry care as a spatial argument the hospice,
the orientation centre, the prayer garden — where programme is written around how
a person moves through a difficult day. I want to take that question further in
postgraduate study, testing it against a colder climate, denser sites and a different
construction culture than Lagos.
