MA Jewellery, Jewellery and Metals, 8
2023 – 2024
During my MA in Jewellery, I developed a comprehensive understanding of the jewellery-making
process, from initial concept development to the final piece. A key project that stood out was inspired
by the Tanjavur Temple and the cultural legacy of the Chola Dynasty. This project involved extensive
research into the temple’s intricate art and architecture, which deeply influenced my design approach.
I took full ownership of the project, overseeing the entire process from form generation to the creation
of the final jewellery pieces. Drawing inspiration from the temple’s architectural details, such as
carvings and symbolic motifs, I translated these elements into contemporary jewellery designs. To
further enrich the authenticity of the pieces, I incorporated a combination of five metals—gold, silver,
copper, brass, and bronze—each representing different aspects of Tamil culture and symbolism. This
multi-metal approach not only paid homage to the historical significance of the Chola period but also
added a complex, layered texture to the jewellery.
This project enabled me to explore material interactions, refine my design techniques, and successfully
merge traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. The final pieces reflected a harmonious blend
of cultural heritage and innovative design, showcasing my ability to create meaningful and technically
sophisticated jewellery
