I am a Principle Mechanical Design Engineer based in Minneapolis, MN. I have over 25 years of product design experience and can make your ideas come to life in 3D. I own and operate a mechanical design services business. I have 11 US Patents My hourly rate may be a bit higher, but you get what you pay for! Your design is not a place to be cheap. I have been using Solidworks doing intensive design projects since 1997, and used other CAD systems for many years before that (in fact I started with a pencil and a drafting board). I am likely faster and more experienced than most, and can steer your design in the right direction so the parts are manufacturable and as inexpensive as possible.

My name is Nathan Dotts, and I am a Mechanical Engineer. I graduated from Brigham Young University Idaho and currently live in Indiana with my wife and two sons. I have industry experience in food, automotive, automation, and fabrication. My specialty is in the area of product design. In 2002, after high school, I went directly into trade school and earned my AutoCAD Certification. Little did I know that I would be in the AEC field for the next 12 years. I regularly spend 8+ hours a day, working on schools and other similar buildings, making large sums of money for other people, whilst barely making ends meat for all of my hard work. This is the reason I've decided to go freelance. Coordinating electrical systems in building has become my strong suite. Although I went into CAD classes with dreams of making video games and 3D models, I have not been able to find the right the right company or the right location. Alas, I have continued to build complex 3D models for BIM coordination. But, no more! I’m hoping that if you've found this website you have an idea, maybe a hand drawn sketch or two, or even some old drawings that you’d like to have converted to a digital format. I am a creative and self-motivated mechanical engineer who is passionate about design and particularly interested in design for manufacturing. In addition to a strong mechanical design foundation, I possess strong problem-solving and communication skills. I graduated from UPenn with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics in May 2020. While there, I gained tons of CAD, CAM, DFM, & DFA experience (engineers love acronyms, don't they).
