About the job
MOTORCYCLE NEW BELT DRIVE DESIGN, MANUFACTURE & TESTING
Location: Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam ot Taiwan
PLEASE - understand that you must be located in a country where both prototypes and the finished components can be manufactured with high quality CNC precision methods AND you must have access to all the motorcycles (stating with Kawasaki Vulcan S) for thorough testing of prototypes. Unfortunately, this means that Nigeria, India, Pakistan etc. are NOT suitable locations for this work.
1. Objective
Design, manufacture, test, and refine a premium series of motorcycle belt drive kits for leading brands and models, starting with the Kawasaki Vulcan 650.
2. Technical Parameters
• Belt Type: Gates X3N, 1-inch width (globally available, carbon fibre reinforced, high-torque capacity).
• Application: Direct replacement for OEM chain drives, matching or improving performance, durability, longevity and smoothness.
• Design Priorities:
o Correct belt tension under varying loads.
o Perfect horizontal alignment to prevent friction and vibration.
o Front and rear pulleys matching OEM gear ratios.
• Performance Goal: Meet or exceed OEM reliability and finish standards.
3. Required Engineering Skills & Experience
• 3D CAD: SolidWorks, CATIA, or Autodesk Inventor — with focus on CNC manufacturing workflows.
• Materials Knowledge: Aluminium alloys, steels, and/or carbon composites.
• Finishing Processes: Deburring, polishing, anodising, nickel plating.
• P...

• Finishing Processes: Deburring, polishing, anodising, nickel plating.
• Precision Engineering: Tolerances, quality control, balancing, and vibration reduction.
• Automotive Experience: Drivetrain design experience strongly preferred.
• Local Network: Existing working relationships with reputable CNC and finishing manufacturers in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam or Taiwan
4. Development & Production Plan
A Kawasaki Vulcan 650 motorcycle will be provided in order to fit, test and perfect any prototypes before manufacturing the finished parts. It might also be possible and advantageous to examine and reverse engineer the factory fitted belt drive components which are fitted to the Kawasaki Vulcan 900 model. Care must be taken with any patents applied to the Vulcan 900 belt drive system.
• Phase 1 – Design & Prototyping:
o CAD modelling and stress analysis.
o CNC machining of prototype pulleys.
o Assembly and fitment testing on Kawasaki Vulcan 650.
o Adjustment for tension, alignment, and clearance.
• Phase 2 – Limited Production:
o First low-volume run (MOQ-friendly).
o Field testing under real riding conditions.
o Refinements for mass production.
• Long-Term Scope:
o Development of 10–20 additional models for other motorcycle brands and models
o Ongoing long term collaboration on design improvements and custom variants.
5. Proposal Submission
When replying, please include:
1. Your Qualifications — Education, certifications, relevant engineering experience.
2. Your Experience — Previous drivetrain, CNC, or motorcycle-related projects.
3. Your Network —Malay, Thai or Vietnamese CNC or finishing partners you have worked with.
4. Your Approach — Step-by-step plan for the Vulcan 650 kit (design, testing, production).
5. Your Timeline — Estimated completion schedule for Phase 1.
6. Your Budget — Cost breakdown for design, prototyping, and initial production.
Goal: Match or exceed OEM quality in both engineering and visual finish.
6. Collaboration Benefits
• Opportunity for ongoing, multi-model projects.
• Work on premium products for a growing international niche market.
