About the job
Project Overview
VANTEXA is developing a premium range of fishing tackle storage products for the UK and European markets. We are seeking an experienced mechanical product design engineer with proven expertise in injection-moulded plastic products, functional mechanisms, and design for manufacturing (DFM).
This is an initial, one-time product development project with potential follow-on assignments for additional products.
Initial Project Scope
Convert our existing detailed 2D layouts and design specifications into fully engineered, manufacturable 3D CAD models for:
1. Small Tackle Box: Approximately 250 × 190 × 80 mm externally, incorporating multiple lid compartments, an integrated rig board, configurable bottom storage, removable dividers, hinges, latches and secure closures.
2. Mini Pod 1: Approximately 100 × 75 × 25 mm, dual-sided, with nine fixed compartments and independently secured storage faces.
3. Mini Pod 2: Approximately 100 × 75 × 25 mm, dual-sided, with a different nine-compartment configuration and independently secured storage faces.
Engineering Requirements
- Develop reliable hinges, latches, snap-fits and compartment closure mechanisms.
- Optimize wall thickness, ribs, draft angles, tolerances, parting lines and material selection.
- Evaluate component standardization and opportunities to reduce tooling complexity and cost.
- Preserve the intended storage functionality and premium product appearance.
- Coordinate design revisions...

- Evaluate component standardization and opportunities to reduce tooling complexity and cost.
- Preserve the intended storage functionality and premium product appearance.
- Coordinate design revisions following prototype evaluation and initial manufacturer DFM feedback.
Expected Deliverables
- Fully editable, feature-based native CAD files (SolidWorks preferred).
- STEP files and prototype-ready files.
- Complete assembly models and component drawings with critical dimensions and tolerances.
- Bill of Materials (BOM) and material recommendations.
- Preliminary tooling and manufacturing feasibility assessment.
- Agreed prototype-related revisions and initial OEM DFM support.
Required Experience
Applicants should demonstrate previous involvement in commercially manufactured injection-moulded plastic products. Experience with multi-compartment storage systems, plastic enclosures, hinges, latches, snap-fits or comparable consumer products is highly desirable.
Please provide relevant portfolio examples, identify which products reached actual production, specify your CAD software, and explain your role in manufacturing preparation.
Budget and Timeline
We are targeting a cost-effective, milestone-based engagement, with an initial budget of approximately USD 2,000. Please distinguish between a quotation for the complete scope and a narrower first engineering phase if the full scope exceeds this budget.
Provide your proposed fixed-price breakdown, estimated timeline, included revisions and any exclusions.
Confidentiality and Ownership
Detailed proprietary layouts will be shared only after appropriate confidentiality arrangements. All agreed project-specific CAD files, technical documentation and intellectual-property rights must be assigned to VANTEXA under the contract.
