About the job
Summary
This is a focused expert consultation, not a full engineering or drafting assignment.
I already have drawings, dimensions, photos and site information. I expect an experienced professional to review the condition and provide a clear practical recommendation, typically within a 30–60 minute consultation, with a simple sketch or marked-up detail if useful.
I am looking for an experienced building-envelope specialist, architectural technologist, or residential construction-detail designer to develop a practical waterproofing and wall-to-slab detail for an existing detached garage project in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada.
The garage structure is supported by screw piles. The wood-framed exterior wall/post system must remain structurally independent from the existing concrete slab, and the slab may move seasonally relative to the screw-pile-supported structure.
An unusual condition is that the concrete slab extends approximately 2 ft beyond the exterior wall line in some areas. I need a practical, buildable exterior wall-to-slab transition that accommodates this independent movement while maintaining reliable waterproofing, drainage, insulation, and exterior-envelope continuity.
The detail should address:
- Separation between the screw-pile-supported wall structure and the concrete slab
- Differential movement between the slab and wall structure
- Exterior waterproofing
- WRB continuity
- Flashing and drip-edge strategy
- Rainscreen drainage
- Siding termi...

The detail should address:

- Differential movement between the slab and wall structure
- Exterior waterproofing
- WRB continuity
- Flashing and drip-edge strategy
- Rainscreen drainage
- Siding termination
- Sheathing protection
- Insulation / thermal continuity where appropriate
- Capillary and moisture control
- A clear drainage path so water cannot become trapped at the wall base
Relevant British Columbia building-envelope experience is strongly preferred. Experience in coastal or northern BC is especially valuable.
This project is located in Kitimat, BC, so the detail must be suitable for a cold, wet, high-rainfall northern British Columbia climate and should reflect practical BC residential wood-frame, rainscreen, flashing, and moisture-management methods.
Experience in other Canadian provinces is useful but does not necessarily substitute for BC-specific envelope experience. Candidates with relevant Pacific Northwest experience, such as coastal Washington, Oregon, or Alaska, may also be considered if they are comfortable working to British Columbia / Canadian requirements.
I already have structural drawings, site photos, dimensions, slab information, wall locations, and the existing wall assembly. This is not a complete architectural redesign and does not require redesign of the garage structure.
Deliverables should include:
- A recommended wall-to-slab waterproofing strategy
- One or more clear section/details showing the complete wall-base assembly
- Key dimensions where relevant
- Material/layer descriptions
- A short explanation of how water is drained out of the assembly
- Notes explaining how relative movement is accommodated
- Recommended materials/products that are realistically available in British Columbia
Preferred products and materials should be available through common Canadian suppliers such as RONA, Home Depot Canada, Amazon.ca, Canadian building suppliers, or similar sources.
The final detail does not need to be a stamped engineering drawing, but it should be clear enough for a homeowner and contractor to understand and build correctly.
Please include examples of similar building-envelope, wall-base, slab-edge, foundation, flashing, rainscreen, or waterproofing details you have completed, especially any work in British Columbia or comparable Pacific Northwest climates.
Budget is flexible for the right candidate, but this is intended to be a focused construction-detail assignment, not a full architectural or engineering project.
I am not looking for a full permit package, engineering report, or extensive CAD production. The value I am seeking is experienced judgment and a practical, buildable solution.
